If it were packed unobtrusively, you wouldn't be able to tell he wasn't in town to photograph the concerts.

A real nutter, for sure. The videos were extremely horrifying. The slide fire stock sounded like a machine gun and with each burst people would scream and hit the ground.

A veteran of the Iraq War has been called a hero for his actions during and following the Las Vegas concert shooting on Sunday evening.

Taylor Winston found a nearby truck with the keys inside and drove more than 20 victims to nearby Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center.

I am so sad for the dead and injured, together with their grieving families. I can't imagine anything worse for a family.

That said, it seems to be incredibly hard to get accurate information, when things are reported by people that are clueless about firearms.

The police chief opined that the full automatic fire might have been accomplished on an AR-15 by the perp "filing the sear pin." Just one example of the blind leading the blind here. I guess it sounds good if you say it fast. It would be nice if someone who knows more about firearms than the probability that a bullet comes out of the front end could be consulted.

It will be interesting when all the proper facts come out on the motive, actual events and the tools used. Not that this will help things in the slightest, but the families and the public have a right to know. One woman interviewed reported that another woman was yelling "You're all going to ******* die today" about 45 minutes BEFORE the shooting started. The "lone shooter" thing is getting increasingly hard to believe.

I have my own "48 hour" rule for this sort of thing. Everything that the media or politicians say about this (other than expressions of condolences) is BS. I don't even watch the news coverage of these things until that period has elapsed.

Since the news media has to fill time and usually only has limited video, they replay the video on a 30-90 second loop and just make stuff up so they have something to say. The same goes for their "experts". They have no idea of what is going on, but they have to say something.

After 48 hours, the people actually doing the investigating have started to get a grasp of what went on. They'll generally release what they can, but most of what they know, they can't or won't say.

Brit Hume is a top notch reporter (IMHO), so this doesn't surprise me.

Of course the news, regardless of channel, has been filled with the usual misinformation, lack of information, lies and distortions...it has sadly become to be what we expect during these type of events.

Given that, I was shocked to hear an interview with Brit Hume (discussing the tone of POTUS' response speech) in which he suggest we take a day to mourn and absorb the event before we jump to the various inevitable political speeches and jostling. Sorry I do not have the clip - it helped me believe there may yet be some small flicker of decency alive in the community of what we now call journalism.

The stories of heroism and altruism, of strangers helping others in deadly peril, saving lives and supporting those heartbroken and terrified victims, should ignite that special feeling, that lump-in-the-throat, "only in the USA" pride of being American...a feeling that can inspire us and bring us together (if only for an unfortunately short period).

Amongst the prayers and thoughts for these victims, please do not forget all of those still in need from the recent hurricanes.

I just found out that 2 of my wife's nieces were in that hotel . I pray they were not at the concert.

Already, almost at the 48 hour mark, there is little in the way of hard facts. The "girl friend" who was initially declared not involved, is now a "person of interest" and is supposed to be in the Philippines, where she will be interviewed.

Other facts will come to light as the investigation unfolds.

The gun control crowd already are using this tragedy to advance their political agenda. There is a phrase that describes this, but the last time I used it, I got dinged.

I'm confident in saying we can say "goodbye" to bump-stocks. Millions of Americans who have never heard of them certainly have now, and in my view (not that I agree), their availability will be hard to defend.

The truth is out there somewhere. This apparently authentic photo of the shooter's hotel room shows what appears to be a note on the table near his body. Sure would be interested if it was something like a suicide note. In any event, we'll know eventually what the authorities want us to know..
