What's your most recent firearm purchase, and why did you buy it?

A Savage Mark II GXP because I wanted a .22 rifle and this at $130 net after the rebate was a no brainer with a scope mounted up. Fired it yesterday and it's a nice gun...bolt rifles are cool!!

A 586 four inch no dash with rubber Hogues for $637. I think I paid a tad too high but my buddy would not sell his four inch 586 no matter how bad I begged. Never had a gun reblued but Im gonna do it to this one. Not cost efficient but its a gun Ive wanted for a long time and I want her pretty dammit!

This beautiful “Pre 10” dating to 50-51. While I was not looking specifically for one, I simply could not let it get away. Really looking forward to getting my mitts on it!

I found my dream gun

My local shop had this almost new 19-4, with elephant ivory grips. I saw it for the first time, few weeks ago, and it started keeping me awake at night.
I had been looking for a pinned and recessed Combat Magnum, at the same time I was having a recurring dream of going to a Texas BBQ, when this gun found me.

I got this new Ruger the other day. Why? Well, I wanted it, it was cheap, and it was convenient. Bought it from a vending machine, and there was no background check needed:

WOW, If I could find one for under $400 I'd jump all over it!!! All I can find are over $600.........Must have been a Florida special!

Yep, basically it was a Blem...it got scratched in transit courtesy of the delivery company...
or perhaps dropped/slid after it was unboxed in the store...either way, $379 works for me,
since I plan to do something rather radical to it...Instant Liberal Annoyer!

A Model Number ONE, First Issue, Third Type. Bought at a live auction for a very reasonable price as it looked so bad. (The silver plate was so tarnished it was black and the minimal surface rust on the blued portion and was dirty). Sitting among all the wonder 9's and other current handguns it looked not inviting and no one else recognized it for what it was, (a scarce 2nd year issue S&W from 1858).

Seeing as how this thread has somewhat drifted away from strictly S&W I would have to say an M1816 U.S. Musket made in 1833 and
converted to percussion probably Civil War era.
(If you have to ask why, you probably wouldn't understand..;))

As for my most recent S&W, it would be a M34-1 2 inch (early c.1970-71) probably 98%.
Oddly enough they both came from the same source.....about two days apart.

No pictures yet. I need the weather to clear so I can set up outside.

... and, a very limited production of a 1905, 4th change (Circa 1938) factory finished in CHROME, as experiment for testing as a replacement to Nickel just prior to WWII. A few varying stories on the 1905, 4th Nickel. One is that there were 10, 6 inch models finished din Nickel for experimental purposes. 7 went out for testing, 3 went into the S&W Vault. This was stated to be an experiment for durability and replacement of Nickel which was becoming scarce just prior to WWII. Another story is they tried chroming some of these to see if one finish could be used for both the guns and the S&W Flush Valves. I choose to believe the prior.

(((( UPDATED DATA 12/31/17. I lettered both 1905 4th change 6" Chrome. They were both in the same shipment to Greenblatt in NYC, in 1960, in an order of 30 (yes, THIRTY) (not 3 as previously thought). I have another letter from S&W to the owner of one of mine stating S&W experimented with about 200 chrome finished guns but mentions nothing specific. That means there are many more out there that are mistaken for Nickel, however, at the outside ... even if 200 were manufactured, WHERE ARE THEY ??? ))))

Of the 7 that went out for testing, they all failed, terribly. After moderate testing the chrome started to peel off the cylinders on all 7 test guns. No one knows, nor has another been lettered as such that these were taken back and possibly refinished in Nickel or they were destroyed.

Of the 3 in the S&W vault since 1938, they were discovered in 1960. All 3 sold to the same dealer in NYC as a "bargain". These 3 are all accounted for. I have one ANIB and another 99%. Another member may still have the other one if it has not yet been sold.

There were some chrome Victories types ... specifically a batch that was made for the Chinese Army (per Roy Jinks) ... and IIRC were delivered to the Chinese Embassy in the USA ... but those all had a red seal on the side plate of the Chinese Army. As far as I know ... NONE of this batch has ever showed up.

There are two others noted in the link by another reliable member but neither of those have surface in a quite awhile.
