Dick's Sporting Goods in trouble

Let's see, I buy my Under Armor from UA, my jeans from Bean or Old Navy, Coats from Filson, and Footwear from Red Wing or New Balance, Revolvers on this forum, and fishing stuff from my local B&T store.

Not sure why I would ever go to Dick's

Can’t remember exactly when Dick’s made the announcement, but we dropped them the same day. We walk through one pretty frequently, but we’ve only spent a total of $20 there since the change. Their store is a primary Mall entrance, so we just walk straight through. I hope they collapse from the weight of their own foolishness.

My dollars go to the local LGSs. Rather pay a few dollars more and it goes to people who share my values and beliefs.

This horse is so-o-o-o dead...

It's like management went to a fortune teller for advice and they channeled up "Sports Authority."

Who remembers September 2001 when KMart suspended sales of guns and ammo at the start of everyone's hunting season. By December KMart was on the skids and vaporized very shortly thereafter.
KMart, Sports Authority, Dick's. The corporate stupidity overfloweth.

Hunting was a traditional sport in USA long before "baseball, licensed products, and outerwear" somehow allegedly became traditional sporting goods.

I do not consider "licensed products or outerwear" as traditional sporting goods.

Licensed products are modern abominations. There is nothing traditional about licensed products.

The Pilgrims, cowboys, settlers, etc. did not wear football jerseys with somebody else's name printed on the jersey.

Dick's must be seriously confused.

Might be their so-called leadership.:rolleyes::mad:

A note in the same vein. Up until 2 years ago, I was doing firearms and militaria appraisals on a TV show here called Arizona Collectibles which ran on the local PBS channel. Everything was fine and viewership was growing until Arizona State University gained control. Being a Libtard gun hating university, they decided over multiple objections that guns etc. were no longer allowed on the program even though I has set a cutoff date of WW II to avoid black weapons appearing for appraisal. I was asked subsequently about my absence by viewers and when I told them the reason they said they'd never watch the show again. Viewership fell off and the show was canceled and I was told by the promoters that my dismissal was one of the reasons since the show lost its male "hook". I bring this up to show what goes around comes around and everyone lost in this situation.

There is a Dick's somewhere near Me. Never been there. Bass Pro 5 miles away, been there twice. Cabelas 170 miles away(Sidney), been there four times a year for 30 years. Newer Cabelas 16 miles away. Been there a lot. Last time there the store was being remodeled inside and looked like a Bass Pro shop. Same stuff as Bass Pro. Never going back. Sportsmans warehouse 18 miles away. I go there when I want to shop. They have more and better selection of gun stuff, and good fishing stuff, decent clothes and shoes/boots. And they're cheaper than the others for the same stuff. Maybe Sportsmans Warehouse will take over some of the Dick's outlets. No I am not sorry for Dick's. Living proof that Politics and business don't mix.

I've seen a lot of businesses succeed and fail over my lifetime.

The only Dick's Sporting Goods I have been to used to be a Sports Authority that I went to one time, and as I recall it was Oshman's Sporting Goods prior to that. I did business with the locally owned Oshman's in the 1960s and 1970s. Retail is a difficult business. Companies come and go.

Some here feel vindicated that Dick's is faltering after amending their gun sale policies after a gun they sold was used in a mass shooting.

I cannot help but wonder if the anti-gun folks are not doing a happy dance also because the evil gun dealer Dick's is going down.

Limited buying options are better than no buying options. Why some folks want to see any gun dealer fail escapes me. Try not to cut off your nose to spite your face. That's all I have to say on this topic.

Virtue signaling is not smart fiscal management if part of your customer base is the actual target of your SJW boardroom disdain. Some would call that corporate suicide. I used to be a steady shotshell customer, plus bought other items in fishing, camping, ski gear, hunting & even golf. We cut up our Dick's Score cards and unsubscribed from all email. I won't miss them because I don't go there anymore.
Brick & mortar retail is under enough pressure without SJW management giving the middle finger to a segment of their own customer base. I will feel bad for the employees, but they aren't toast yet. Maybe Dick's will sell a ton of Under Armour & Nike at full retail and pull it out in the 4Q. Probably not, but maybe.

I never purchased a firearm from Dick’s though to be honest the 2 stores here are mall stores and being in the ‘city’ cant sell handguns. There is a reason Gander built their new store some years back in a ‘burb, Cabelas built their new store in a burb and Fleet Farm just built in, yep, a burb. Sometimes the political climate of a market and its laws can affect what a retailer can or cant do as well.
I’m of the opinion that not carrying a certain firearm wont be the final hit they take, rather it is likely that online shoppers play a role. There are those who complain a store doesnt carry an item, then on the flip side say they would never buy it there as they can save a few bucks online. Many retailers deal with this, and i can be as guilty as the rest from a consumer’s point of view.

In my area, unemployment is incredibly low and retail/food is always hiring. So if one liked working retail and a chain fails here they can find work. Not the case everywhere of course.

And to be fully honest I had no thoughts either way on their policies regarding AR’s or any other like items as I dont own them nor have any intention of owning one. They have the right to set their policies and I have the right to decide where to shop. But only speaking of my locations here, both our main malls have lost Boston Stores recently, Sears is gone or the way out, and if Dicks leaves thats yet another anchor at each site empty. That affects a lot more than just the one store. So i dont root for any retailer to fail.

BEFORE they pulled their anti gun stunt, I use to go there. HOWEVER the ONLY items I ever purchased were gun related and so when I made the conscious decision to stop patronizing their store, nothing else they sold interested me anyway. Not for nothing, but I've found alternative sources that are way better (price wise) than Dick's was anyway! A win - win for me and a loose - loose for them.

We had two SW stores here in San Antonio, both shut down around 10 years ago. I couldn't understand why as they carried a large inventory (even reloading equipment and supplies) and their prices weren't outrageous. And they seemed (to me) to usually be busy.

I never really cared for Dick's, but they had a really nice Field and Stream in the Triangle area. It closed rather quickly after opening and I'm not quite sure why.

The Dick's I've seen in San Diego never carried anything for the shooting sports. So nothing different here.
