Dick's Sporting Goods in trouble

"Pigeons come home to roost"

Several "Old sayings", or "Words Of Wisdom" help explain Dick's situation. some of them are as follows.

"What goes around comes around".

"If you don't want to smell it, don't stir in it".

"Everybody is accountable for their actions"

I fully expect "Dick's Sporting Goods", to choose a new name, such as "The Couch Potato Bin". I also expect the people that are actually guilty of causing Dick's Corporate troubles, to use the method, used by top corporate leaders, worldwide, to find a "patsy", to blame for their own failures. The name of this "Ploy" is, "Six Phases Of A Project". The Phases are as follows,
1. Enthusiasm
2. Disillusionment
3. Panic
4. Search For The Guilty
5. Punishment Of The Innocent
6. Praise And Honors For The Non Participants

This method doesn't always succeed , but it's always used in one way or another. I for one will miss Dick's, like a large carbuncle, but, feel sorry for the innocent employees, but that is how the mop flops, and someone has to suffer. It definitely won't be the guilty, at Dick's. That's just my 2¢ opinion.

It'd be a nice thing to see them go under.

I expect the profit margin on the upscale trinkets & clothing may help them, but I kinda doubt most of their customer base has that kind of disposable income.

So if you decide to remove a product and limit the customers by introducing an age restriction and sales fall. ...... .the logical answer is to remove MORE products? Gotcha.

Makes perfect sense ..... but only to those sticking to their particular political agenda.

It's like management went to a fortune teller for advice and they channeled up "Sports Authority." Following their plan step for step. SA had the largest selection of Spandex ever seen at the liquidation auction. I still have an all metal, SS Ruger 10-22 I bought at SA about 20 years ago for $139. I haven't been to a "Big Box" sports retailer in 10 years. Pretty sure Bass Pro having 9mm WWB for $3.88/ box was my last trip. Good luck. Joe

Saw one Dicks store (didn’t go in) a couple of Cabella’s and a few Bass Pro stores on our US holiday.

Bass Pro Memphis Pyrimid was a blast, even Karen enjoyed shopping there and she usually avoids sporting goods stores.

The best for me was Paul’s Pistols and Pawn in Arkansas. Wish I could have bought a few items home with me, especially the Tauru PT 1911’s I saw in the cabinet .

Next best Cop Stop in Pearland, Houston.

Sadly, most of my trap club friends sneak in and buy shotgun shells and ammo on sale. They have had some good sale prices, with the intent of trying to lure back customers.

The local Sports Authority (formerly Oshman's) closed a couple of years ago. I was in it only once before it closed, no guns, but they did have ammunition. When they had their liquidation sale, much of the ammo was still there. I made a fair offer to buy it all at a reasonable price but the store manager told me that he was under orders to not do any dealing. They day the liquidation sale ended, most of the ammo was still there. When it was Oshman's they did have a fairly good gun department.

Maybe Bass Pro can buy it and do to it what they have started doing to Cabelas. They forced me to sell my stock in Cabelas and caused a tax liability on my stock as I had to pay capital gains on the sale. I have been in the Cabelas/bass pro store one time since. JRM53

News story today (edited for brevity):

Dick's Sporting Goods is warning investors that its decision to remove certain "assault-style" weapons from its Field & Stream stores cost it dearly and may limit its future gains.

Gee, that's too bad.....NOT !!!!!

Hope this serves as a lesson to other retailers.

Not a fan of Dick's but they have some really good sales on ammo and they actually have it in stock. I am even less a fan of Bass Pro and they are sucking the life out of Cabela's so are choices are getting to be slim and none.

Dorks is probably the premier place to pick up spandex bicycle shorts. Their firearm supply was pitiful before they cut their own throat.

I never bought any bicycling stuff there.

The ones I've seen primarily stocked a large variety of low to mediocre quality merchandise. If want bike stuff, I go to a bike shop. If I want gun stuff, I go to a gun store, etc.

I would buy ammo there when it was on sale. They had a decent selection of running shoes and cheap dry-fit shirts and shorts. Beyond that, not much use for them.

Lot of CEO types are only interested in how much they can weasel out of the company not its long term success. I don’t do business with companies that mix politics with business.

A few things; 1) when Dick's destroyed some of their AR-15 type weapons, the entire gun staff walked out to never return at their Columbus, Ohio "Polaris" store! 2)They have decided to get out o9f reloading Supplies (over 6 month ago!) and marked everything down 10 to 25%, on what I can tell, it is now MSRP. 3) I bought a bike on sale 3+ years ago, my extended warranty is now over. I needn't return, until I can be a vulture at the liquidation sale!

IT was a sign of what is wrong with big box gun stores, Cabela's opened across the street and they lost 1/2 of their customers, and 2/3's of their employees. The guys that know nothing about guns at one store, still know nothing when they work someplace else!

I've been into......

Sports, camping, fishing, some hunting but all that's in the past. Now GUNS interest me and Dick's doesn't cater to my needs. I think they've been in trouble for a good while.
