What was your first new-bought S&W revolver?

My first was a model 19-3 #2k77211. I've never been able to forget that serial #..What a beautiful revolver. I kept it about 3years. Young and dumb. Got bored. That's why I've parted with very, very few guns since. Bought that one in 1973. I'd pay a lot of bucks to get that one back. Mike

A model 620. If you can identify the caliber and capacity of the cylinder you get a gold star for knowing your obscure S&W revolvers.

7 shot .357 replacing the model 66 (according to Google and Wikipedia)

My first lnib is a 586 vintage 1984.
No dash.
All my others are shooter grade used gun buys, but very good ones at that !

My first S&W purchased new was a Model 10-4 with 4" standard barrel. Gun was purchased in September 0f 1970. I bought at a jewelry store/ gun store in Mineral Wells, Texas while in flight school. I later sold it to my former boss in February of 1983. He still has it. I tried to by it back last year, but he won't do it. That was one really nice revolver. I remember my wife got mad at me for selling it.

I taught an adult ed class and was paid $500. I bought a 6 inch 57 in nickel and that was my first and only new Smith and my first nickel. I chose the .41 instead of a .44 cause I like being different. I am glad I made the choice I did.

I'd been owning Smith & Wessons since the mid-1970s, but the first new one I bought is this long-snouted Model 14-4 purchased in early January of 1980. It was purchased with money realized from selling some silver during the height of the silver scare when the Hunt bros. drove silver up so high. There was a Model 17-4 under the glass in the pistol counter. On a whim I went back and purchased it a week later. Thought I could always sell it if I decided that I didn't like owning a .22 handgun. I ended up liking it so much that I've shot it 50 to 1 over the Model 14. Look at the difference in wear to the ejector rod housing between the two.

The Model 14 cost $209 and the Model 17 cost $259. This was at Wacker's department store.

A month later I had to give scalpers' pricing of $484 for this 8 3/8-inch Model 29 at Donn Heath guns. Payed full retail and they were cheapest in Fort Worth.

A similar long barred Model 27 once rounded out the four long-barreled ones, but it proved to have a slow barrel which gave lower velocity readings than it's 6-inch successor.

First new S&W puirchase

My first new handgun purchase was a Model 60 purchased in 1974
as an off duty weapon. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $125 for it. Carried it for a bit then it got replaced with a Model 49, which I still carry.

Traded the Model 60 several years ago.

My first Smith

My parents bought me a S & W .22 Kit gun in 1962, age 10.
Long gone now. Wish I still had it...

I have purchased exactly three S&W revolvers brand new. All of the rest have been used..

First was a no-lock 642. The frame cracked on it, and S&W sent me a new one which I promptly sold, not trusting the platform.

Second was a TRR 22-4 N-frame .45 ACP. I still have it, and I still love it.

Third was a no-lock 442 that I bought since I was stupid enough to dump the 642. :)

Old Cops & Guns

Model 38 as a b/u to my Model 15 service revolver in the early ‘70s. Purchased from another cop on my patrol squad.

Must be a thing, first new S&W I bought was a model 38, also.
Purchased at a local pawn & gun for duty use with no federal tax. It was my BUG and off duty. It cost $65. Yes, I still have it but like me it's retired in favor of a newer model. The newer model is in my avatar. My duty gun was a round butt Model 10 4".

6" 686 and whatever dash number would have been shipping in 1993, brother in law has it now.

My first brand new S&W revolver was a Model 17-6, 6" barrel, blued with Combat wood grips!!!! With this gun I spent my days at the Country hunting jackrabits and quails and also at the range, with this gun I won a local pistol match !!! It was a very accurate handgun, robust and a superb long range shooter (up to 100 yds in calm days without wind)!!!!
