I finally broke down and paid the price for this coffee.

Safeway had a special at $4.99 but you had to buy four.

So I picked up two dark and two light bags of whole beans.
I am happy with the first bag of dark beans that I opened.
The bag seamed to be air packed which is a good thing but I have a question.

With the other three bags..........
are they ok sitting in a cupboard or should I freeze them, to keep them in top condition?

It might be 30-40 days before I finish off this first bag.

Starbucks bagged coffee bought at a supermarket isn't fresh roasted, so it's unlikely to lose much more flavor than it already has.
One day, you might want to see if a roast-to-order micro-roaster can make you a coffee you'd like better. We get fresh roasted espresso called Red Line, from these folks.

My grandparents used to keep ground coffee in the fridge, but I don't think it's necessary. As others mention, a cool dark place is all you need, especially with the way they package stuff these days.

I'll buy SB french roast or cafe verona, but not often. Plenty of good choices to go round.
 
As a different point of view to an above post; in the home roasting and espresso world freezing is an accepted method of preserving roasted coffee. I've done it for years and can't tell any difference in the coffee. If I'm freezing an opened bag I'll put it in a "ziplock" bag and then in the freezer.
 
I get my Starbucks dark roast Sumatra by the case via Amazon.

I open 1 bag at a time transfer it to a plastic 1gal ziplock, case lasts me 2 months and coffee comes fresh and stays fresh just sitting in original packaging.

Starbucks is the gateway drug to coffee. Once past the price tag, you start looking for "the next better cup."

I have hit the plateau. Kona Coffee Farm | Buy 100% Big Island Kona Coffee Online Was visiting Kona, and stopped for the tour. Great visit, better coffee. Real coffee, one farm. Peaberry rocks. Full City is dangerous. Private Reserve is, IMO, overrated. The sampler pack is the way to try this, even the macadamia nut. The chocolate-covered coffee beans (peaberry again)... you've been warned. :D
 
I occasionally do go to Starbucks to please the wife. I do like their frozen drinks though. I do not care for the coffee at all. And I REFUSE to speak their language (it's small, medium, and large for Pete's sake.) Tom Hanks gives a hysterical take on Starbucks and the people that go there in the movie "You've Got Mail."

I like Green Mountain coffee. It may be a Northeast thing, don't know if it's available everywhere. Their Caramel Vanilla Cream is my drug of choice, a couple other flavors are pretty good too

Now that's the real deal. Try Jamaican Blue Mountain- prolly the only kind that can top Kona.
 
Do we really think that Starbucks is alone in price gouging? About 15 yrs. ago when I was into watches, on one of the forums I learned that a stainless steel Rolex costs about $75.00 to produce - parts and labor. I'm sure the other $4500 they charge goes to support marketing.

I wonder how much it costs S&W to produce a revolver - probably closer to the cost of a Rolex than we would like to know - but they do have a good warranty - better than Rolex.
