We certainly love our 2 cents plain! That's Seltzer for anyone here under 70 - LOL!! We buy Vantage brand Seltzer by the case at Costco and it does not take long for my Wife and I (along with friends of course) to polish off the case. I have noticed recently that the amount of CO2 gas is now much less and the Seltzer is less fizzy. An hour after the bottle is opened (even if only a small amount is gone) it starts to go flat immediately. Even making an Egg Cream with Vantage Seltzer is challenging because of the lack of fizz! We have to use Canada Dry brand for that. We take our Egg Creams seriously!

On rare occasion we also drink a little Canada Dry Ginger-ale - but NOT very often as we both know how bad regular soda is for us. Still, once in a long while we will have a small glass. Now we don't actually buy the Ginger-ale, the local Chinese Take Out gives us a 2 liter bottle of Canada Dry when we spend over $40 bucks on food. That bottle will usually last is for months! Last night around 1am I was just in the mood for a glass of Ginger-ale and realized that the huge bottle was 1/2 empty and was at least 3 months old - I figured it would definitely be a goner. Anyway, I opened it up (it still sounded really carbonated as the CO2 exited when I opened it) and poured about 6 ounces over ice and guess what - it was still filled with fizz and was still great! WOW - I would have never believed that!

We still buy the Vintage brand Seltzer because by itself, I don't overly object to the low carbonization (kind of like sparkling water) and a bottle of Seltzer never makes it back into the fridge around here. That said, for Egg Creams, party's, gatherings, etc. Canada Dry brand (although way more expensive) fits the bill way better.

How Canada Dy Ginger-ale stay carbonated so long with a half empty bottle is beyond me - but it does!

Just sort of a fun post - and just an observation. :D

Could never get into Canada Dry Ginger Ale, but give me Vernor's and I'm in heaven.:D

For "old school" sodas, I love cherry phosphates. Have thought about getting the stuff to make them at home.

I know of a pharmacy with an old-fashioned soda bar where you can get phosphates, egg creams, etc.

Nowadays, I just get store-brand diet root beer for my soda fix.

Well, I don't know where you fellas were born and raised, but in NY where I was born and grew up, Seltzer was as common as breathing! My parents would get a case of Seltzer delivered every week (the bottles that were refillable glass with the squirt valve lever on the top and delivered in wooden cases). They actually only got to drink a portion of them if I was around with my friends in the Summer. We use to have Seltzer fights - fun for us UNTIL our parents came home that is!

PS: When I went to College I discovered just how "local" some things can be. When I went into the local eatery for a burger and asked for an Egg Cream they looked at me and said, "what the heck is that"? I had to explain that it is a Chocolate Soda with milk added in just the right amount. The Soda Jerk said I was welcome to make it myself - which I proceeded to do. I'd bet many here have no idea what an Egg Cream is.....

Wow I could have wrote the above!--:) Albany NY seltzer was very well known

The selzer you speak of must be an Eastern thing. Ginger ale isn't even commonly consumed in the midwest.

I guess...... The most popular soft drinks here (in the 50's - 60's) were Coke, Pepsi, Doctor Pepper, 7-UP, Ginger-ale, Root Beer, Yoo-Hoo and of course Seltzer (aka 2 cents plain).

I too am a big seltzer drinker. Vantage is a decent one, but lately, I have been buying the Poland Spring brand.

Schweppes is another good one to try.

I usually get whats ever on sale.

My real favorite is Hals.

I really dislike ginger ale, maybe because my mother would give it to me as a child when I would throw up... ecccck...

My wife lover ginger anything, her ginger ale is a treat for her. She buys some small brand in cans, they seem to only have root beer and ginger ale

Do enjoy the occasional cream soda or root beer.

Anyone like a nice cold Cel-ray?

I could never develop a liking for Dr. Brown's Celray but their Black Cherry and Cream soda is great!
!

Lots of Soda is just local.
‘Well let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
We'll get a slaw burger, fries and a bottle of Ski
Bring it on out to my baby and me’
The Kentucky Headhunters
Did not realize that Ski is a real Soda.
I heard the Song and have spent a lot of time where it’s sold, but I don’t recall ever seeing any.
Anybody drink Ski?

While stationed in Vegas-
Our one New Yorker went Gaga when a Real NY Deli opened.
He especially went long on They Got Dr. Brown!
So we went there.
The Pastrami was good!
But To me, the Dr. Brown tasted like every other soft drink I ever had.
