Where are the Shield Plus Magazines?

How about you do you? For a major rollout, the delay is ridiculous; the endless excuses annoying.

Not sure where your definition of "most people" comes from. I'd like to take holster classes using my 2000-something rounds that risk trashing the mags from combat reloads, but not without a reasonable available method to replace them. So no, 2 magazines aren't serving me well.

I say "no way" ... I will not be patient. Other than holsters which Smith does not make, what's one of the most common accessories for any pistol? Extra magazines.

I recognize that Smith gets its mags from Mec-gar in Italy, and that supply chain issues could limit availability. I call BULL**** on Smith. They've been in business long enough to know that gun owners want extra mags. They (Smith) ****** up - and didn't plan for the demand, or at best planned poorly. Shame on Smith for this. I agree that patience is not a virtue and releasing a pistol before extra magazines are available is frustrating. But if I was running S&W I would have done the same thing.

Demand for guns swings wildly and the gun market is still red hot right now. In a few months it may not be. And a lot of the guns being sold right now are going to to first time owners that just want to own one gun, not start a collection. If S&W had waited for spare magazines to become available before the released the pistol those first time buyers would have bought something else and will never buy a Shield. Or any accessories. In a few months the market may have cooled down to the point S&W would not be selling every Shield they can make at full list price too.

People like you that bought the pistol and are complaining about magazine availability still bought the pistol and are probably going to buy just as many magazines when they become available as you would if you could buy them now. Your complaining costs S&W nothing.

And those that are holding off on buying a Shield until they can get spare magazines might still buy one in the future.

From a business viewpoint I cannot think of a single reason to delay selling a pistol in this market until all the accessories are available.

@UT Guy - Love your sarcasm. Much appreciated. We both know I'm just venting an no amount of ranting will get me extra mags any faster. Thanks for the laugh.

@Dave Lively - I understand enough about business, the biz cycles, demand, etc., and agree Smith did the right thing by introducing the Shield Plus even if xtra mags aren't available at this time. I guess I'll have to find a way to appease my frustration - like kicking a hippy in the groin, then finding the nearest decontamination shower. ;-)

I don't understand how Gun Broker manages bidding. There are two 13-rd mags out there now, starting bid is $60.

So I bid $65 and got a message back within seconds that the low bid is $67.

Then I bid $69 and again immediately got a message that the low bid is $70. Just 10 seconds later.

So either bidding is going on at a ferocious rate, or Gun Broker is not disclosing accurate info on the current bid. In any case, I quickly lost interest because it looks like GB may be toying with us like a cat. By now I've already bought 3 Shield Plus just to have 3 larger mags. One in the gun and two on my belt. Two spare guns in the safe.

Someone put their max bid, higher than your bid. So, you automatically get outbid until you bid higher than their max.

I submit that this speaks to the popularity of these Shield Plus pocket rockets.

I had been waiting patiently for Smith to respond to all the others from Sig, Ruger, etc. Now we're upgrading the fleet, as it were. The original Shields will go in a safe.

I have 2 P365s that I made into P365X. I have a total of 9 mags for them, so I can wait. I'll pay normal price, which I imagine will be in the mid $30s.
I'm also looking to pick up CHEAP 1.0 and 2.0s will be plenty of mags for them CHEAP....

Yeah... Cutting off loops is not the answer.
They are manufactured with that number of loops for a reason.

+1 on this! The accepted method is to load the mag fully and leave it loaded for several days. The spring will ease up noticeably.

Been owner since March. Would like to give you my money for more mags. Am grateful for 2 mags but I have to unload the carry ammo and load range ammo everytime and vice versa.

The other day I sent an email to Smith asking for "the real story" about shield plus mags. I specifically asked them to not blow smoke up my backside because I had been told "in a few weeks" one too many times. Here's what they said ...

Even I like S&W, I'd say their rivalry with P365 and Hellcat was prepared for making the money without thinking about the Customers.
They came up with new product without any support for it. Lack of magazines is the worst, but I won't be surprised we will have Shield Plus v2 or Shield Plus M2.0 soon...

Nothing oozes sincerity like "We DO apologize..."



Here's the response I received back on March 24th:

Kind of presumptuous to think they "served" me, although my memory has grown fuzzy with the passage of time. Actually I am hesitating taking Frank up on his offer because it would be a complete waste of time given that the smoke from that response is still reposing where the sun doesn't shine.

I get that there are challenges in a new rollout, but it's the blithe dismissal of (former) customers' concerns that means I'm done with S & W and taking my business to Sig where I almost and should have gone in the first place.
