This birth-year (1959) 4-screw Model 28 is my current favorite. It's made every range trip, since its acquisition, several months ago. I put some of Ken's stags on it, to dress it up. It's nice enough to garner compliments and "used" enough to not fret about carrying it in a holster, while fishing, in moose and cougar country.
Regardless of my fondness for my S&W round guns the one I enjoy shooting the most is my 1995 Baer Premier II. I bought it used, called Baer Custom and was told it was made in 1995, spec'd with 1.5" group guarantee, fixed sights, single side safety and the old Bear Coat finish. The seller I got it from replaced the rear sight with a 10-8 and the front with a new night sight.
It was a very low round count gun, Baer recommends 500 rounds before field stripping with only keeping the bore clean and the pistol lubed. I've owned other Baers as well as full customs from Wilson and Novak.
This is by far the smoothest shooting 1911 .45 I've ever owned in the past 45 years. My poor eyesight doesn't allow me to take advantage of the 1.5" option lol but I do shoot it more accurately than any other 1911

No matter what else go's to the range. My 4 inch model 66 always does. It's a 66-3 with target trigger and hammer. It's just fun to shoot. My shooting partner always asks if I brought his favorite to shoot.
My 617-6, and my Sig 365, plus a rotation of 39-2, 15-3, Gold Cu[, Springfield 1911, 686, 640, 60, IZH46M and others.

You know, I woke up this morning and it all changed. When I opened the gun vault door this morning for some reason I reached for my S&W 586 Distinguished Combat Magnum to caress.
My Raven .25 ACP.
My Model 66 2 1/2 in. First gun I bought myself and shoot it better than any others I own.

Had a L1A1 many moons ago. In rapid fire you could see the bullet impacts "walk" up the target as the barrel got hot. Sold it. Like the looks though as I had a wood stock too.
My S&W Model 41 that was set up for an optical sight. It's my regular Wednesday night .22 league gun and I just used it this morning at the big Harrisburg regional match. I've been through a couple optical sights but now have settled on a SigSauer green dot optical sight. Last year the sun wiped out the red dot. I couldn't aim for sour apples last year in the Harrisburg.match. This year the green dot came through and my total score came up 70 points from last year.

Glad you can use the dot sights, I find them to distracting. In my hands they seem to dance around on the target. I am much better off with old school iron sights. Good shooting.
