Grocery Prices

I haVe not had a steak in years.
Sometimes have a pork chop but mostly chicken.
I have eaten so much chicken that at dusk I have an urge to sleep on a perch or tree limb.

Transportation costs are at least part of the problem. Diesel fuel is up a LOT; trucking companies are having increasingly serious retention problems (it is a pretty crummy job in many ways, as much as I enjoyed the travel). Corporate entities are also gouging some on these prices.

My butcher told me most of their beef comes from Brazil. With the trouble down there that may change. Just a thought.

When I went to the meat counter and saw the prices they were asking, I deceided on selecting a lower priced peice of meat.

I've always had a yummy outcome by taking a 7-blade chuck roast and treating it like a steak. However, I don't do a lot of red meat, in any case.
If I see it with a bold, mark-down sticker on it, I'll consider it.

I got freaked-out last week when my 18 eggs rang at 9.99 ! LOL, that same morning, the local talk channel had on the CEO of Hickmans's, our hometown egg producer. He discussed the impact of the avian flu on the industry and said to brace for higher prices to remain.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, I'm still paying the same price for a package of ground beef, that I was paying 2 years ago.[emoji16]

What's funny is here the cage-free eggs are cheaper than the caged ones.

That's been true for me also, but people are noticing it. Only a few cartons of the free-range on the shelves yesterday.$3.99 vs. $5.95-6.59.
This is one price increase I can somewhat understand. Over the past year there have been about 58 million birds killed from the Avian bird flu, just in Iowa 15.5 million lost. Normally the bird flu only happens in the spring but this year there was a second surge in the fall.

I went down to the local Raley's food store to pick up a Rib steak for a bbq meal tonight, for the wife and I.

When I went to the meat counter and saw the prices they were asking, I deceided on selecting a lower priced peice of meat.

I can't beleive I paid $12.99 a pould for a stinking New York steak.

1.86 pounds for 2 small NY steaks for $24.16.

They wanted $18.99 a pound for the Rib eye.

I will be looking at chicken and fish on my next trip to the store !!

That does sound high, I normally pay around $18-20/pound for my Prime? But all meats gone up lately.

I go to the grocery store almost every day as it's only one mile away. I don't buy meat till the day I'm going to cook it and then I buy the cuts that are marked down because it's the last day according to the sell by date.

Prices on just about all groceries are way up compared to a year ago. It seems like a lot more than the advertised inflation rate. Every week each item goes up a couple cents. I guess you're not supposed to notice the price creep that way.

The shrinkflation bothers me more than inflation. Shrinkflation hides the amount of price increase, and it is insulting that they think I won't notice.

Pound of beef liver is $4.95.

I go to Walmart every Sunday AM for most of a weeks groceries. I usually buy most of the same stuff every time, with some new and some old. Used to be $80 to $90, now it's $130 to $150 for the same stuff, and a lot more at the local mart. That's hardly the 8% inflation the Govt. claims. And I buy mostly the yellow tagged marked down beef and pork that is use or freeze tomorrow.
