That makes twice, in one year. Herself says it is because I can’t remember I am not 65 anymore. My surgeon says try therapy again. So, shooting will be curtailed except for my left hand. Casting and reloading are done for the foreseeable future.

Not really enjoying any of the possibilities.

If this is your second time, you know the process and what’s in store for you. I had my right shoulder surgery done in Sept of ‘21. Worst recovery ever. Every thing went just fine but, as you know if you had the surgery, it’s just a loooong and “uncomfortable” recovery. Surprising that your med team is thinking of therapy before surgery if they have already diagnosed the problem. They tried that with me, before the MRI confirmed the issue, and that just exasabated the problem, which lead to the surgery.
In either case, hope for a speedy recovery for you.

How did it happen? I am 61 and know we just don't heal as fast as when we were younger. Had a couple friends go through it and it had them out of business for a while.

Sorry to hear it.

I tore both of mine when I still worked for a living. 1st one in 2016 had me off work for maybe 9 months, right arm. 2nd one left arm, plus he relocated the top of my bicep, but I had that operation after I retired, so I can't remember how long it took for PT. PT is very important after the operation. And, both operations hurt like the Blazes Below after the nerve block wore off. You WILL need meds if you're not Rambo for a couple few weeks, but if you have a therapist like I had both times, the pain is secondary on your mind. Both of my shoulders are stronger than before they got torn, really. Stay away from pipe wrenches longer than 14". Seriously, do what they tell you and if the PT hurts, either get more pain meds or better yet, they will know and ease up. Good luck and practice shooting, and other basic things, with the other hand. Same shoulder twice? If you were closer to Pittsburgh I can recommend my doctor's and his associates' practice. The one in Fox Chapel is great.
Again, I'm sorry you have to go through this again, and good luck and God Bless.

Went through it in 2018, then tore it again in 2020. Took over a year (scamdemic times) to get in for MRI, by which time the pain was significantly reduced and I had recovered moderate use of that shoulder and arm.

In 2021 the docs were ready to slice me up again, but I decided to forego the months of recovery and rehab. I'm retired, no need for heavy physical activities, and no desire to live with the "physical terrorists" again.

My choice. You will have to make your own.

It happened because I still think I can do what I used to do. This time it was running a screw gun at waist level and pushing with my arm instead of my body. Last time, same screw gun but over my head.

The reluctance of my surgeon is because when he goes in, he will be removing a shoulder replacement done 15 years ago. He is worried because the steel pins may have grown in place and present problems when trying to remove the parts. As he says, it may only be two hours and everyone is happy or it might be 12-24 hours and he works up a good sweat.

I remember my recovery from the last shoulder replacement had me off my feet for a couple months and when I went back to work, NO tools. I learned how to do most things left handed prior to surgery. I can still do most things lefty, but it is awkward.

So, right now it is PT.

Being self employed means time off hurts the budget so we are also planning for the slow season.

Thank you all for your thoughts, wishes and prayers. They are comforting.

I just reread my posts. I apologize, I am not yet scheduled for surgery. It may be this year, or maybe in a couple of years. It depends on the outcome of my PT and how my shoulder allows me to work.

Your thoughts and prayers are still appreciated and welcomed but, at the moment, the only knives in my future are the ones I am sharpening!

Kevin

Good luck
I tore my right shoulder and suffered until I got in to DR. office. I just finished PT last week. I'm much better but not quite there yet. I'm doing at home what I did at the PT gym and moving in the right direction. My PT place will allow patients to come and use their gym for $15 a month after you have been released. I plan on taking them up on their offer for many months.

Tore mine in 2016 lifting a case of .38s out of my trunk. I even HEARD it tear. Shoulder likely weak from an earlier impingement. Had to lift my arm with my left hand to grab the lower opening in the steering wheel. Never had surgery or PT since I was scheduled for cancer surgery 3 weeks later. Shoulder healed by itself. My poker buddy, a doc, said my shoulder began to heal itself the moment I injured it.

This is a cautionary tale for anyone who thinks .38 RNL ammo is not a good stopper! :D

I am sorry to hear you are down with this again!

I had my right rotator operated on October 14, 2022 (a Friday). I am a boss at work and I have grown tired of excuses to stay off of work for minor injuries. I was determined to get back to work on Monday the 17th. I did it, I was even on time, but a couple of my subordinates said i did not look right until Wednesday.

I have to stay away from fishing and the range until next month, but things seem really good at this point. I have done more than the doctor has really wanted me to do during this recovery period but i am hopeful to fully return to my hobbies very soon!
