Health and Fitness Thread

Thats a NICE Trek! I have a Specialized Mountain bike and Fitness bike and my knee is well enough now after a year of healing so I'm looking forward to a lot of cycling this fall. It was 80 degrees here today but I think the cool weather is coming in tomorrow to stay so I'm ready to go!

Thanks, I just gotta get used to riding it. I've been riding this guy for decades.

Enjoy the cycling, next week's looking good for lotsa trail time.

I've been keeping track and so far, including the 34 pull ups I did at the gym as part of my workout, I've done 80 pull ups.
Not all at once but a few at a time. I did one set of twelve and two sets of 11 at the gym. The rest I did at home a few at a time.
I'll probably do a few more before bed time.
It'd be cool if I can finish the day at 100 pull ups.

There's still a coupla months left.....

But, very little motivation left on my part. Even when I was in great shape working and handling steel and heavy tools all the time, I found doing pull ups at 6'4 and 240 difficult. My all time high was 7 in a row.

The most impressive thing I ever saw was the Marine corps boot camp hand to hand combat instructor. During our morning runs he was often doing repeated one arm pull ups , shoulders level, one after the other, 5 with one arm then back to the other repeatedly. Guy was about 220# and if you were not doing something like the choke hold properly he would demonstrate on you

I weighed in at 162 pounds this morning.
'Bout 3 decades ago, back in my rock climbing days, I was able to do a one arm pull up. Then again, I was also 20 pounds lighter.

No pull ups today but I did do an hour of cardio on my home spin bike.
Tomorrow's gonna be a lot of sittin' and driving so I figure that'll be my recovery day.
Planning on a bike ride with my sister on Sunday then back to the gym on Monday.

Good day for a bike ride today.
I got Frankenbike out on the C&O Canal Towpath.
After about three and a half miles I heard the sound that cyclists never want to hear. The sound of air hissing.
Yup, got a puncture in my rear tire.
Fortunately, I pack tools, a spare tube and a pump.
I did find a hole in the rear tire.
After I got back home, I pulled both tires off, put the front tire on the back patched the back tire on the inside and put it on the front.
Put a new tube in the rear and my spare tube back in the saddle bag.
I may get a new set of tires. These are getting pretty worn.

Dunno how many wide grip pullups I did today. I kinda lost count. I do them in sets and I lost track of my sets.
I also did an hour of cardio on my home spin bike.
I've come to the conclusion that I like my pullup bar better than the one at the gym.
The bar at the gym has a rubber casing that tends to rotate making it harder to grip with gimpy hands. After 5 or 6 reps, I havta stop and regrip.
Mine doesn't do that.
I may try doing parallel grip pullups at the gym and wide grip overhand pullups at home.
Dunno, I guess I'll find out at my next gym day on Monday.

Today's workout went well.
I incorporated the parallel grip pullups and did 4 sets of 12.
The rest of my workout went well and felt pretty good.
After I got home I did 3 sets of 10 wide grip pullups.
I'm trying to resist the urge to do more, I don't want to overdo it.
I keep thinking, "only 22 more to hit 100 again."
Well, actually, I do want to overdo it but I know I shouldn't.
Gotta make sure to keep my protein up.
Tomorrow it's off to Berkeley Springs to run some errands. If I get home early enough, I can do some home cardio.

When I started at the new gym, I weighed 140 pounds. My goal was to get up to 165 lean pounds. That would make me technically overweight.
For the last few weeks, I hovered between 165 and 166 pounds.
Pretty much where I wanted to be.
This morning though, I weighed in at 162 pounds.
Could the weight loss be from doing home cardio on Lisa's elliptical?
Today's workout felt pretty good. I even did some extra reps with less rest between sets,
I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and see where it goes.

My wife bought me a Century Martial Arts Bob Torso Training Opponent that looks like a mad guy with no shirt on or arms. I tried hitting him with regular boxing gloves but the smaller padded training gloves with finger cut outs seem to work better and it's great indoor cardio and I usually have the TV turned on Youtube with 80s rock songs and punch to the beat of the music. I love it, and the Kenny Loggins Footloose and Queen Bohemian Rhapsody song will really give you a good workout. The funny thing is, I hate Gangsta Rap music but for some reason it goes really well with boxing.

I wish I had your weight problem, last time weight 160 I was a freshman in HS I haven't weight under 200 since 1970

My Dr says I should be 250 but I am 80 over that

I was thinking of hanging a heavy bag in my basement and beating on that for cardio. I figure it'd be a good way to work out some frustrations and get some exercise.
I know what you mean about Gangsta rap, hip hop and that kinda stuff. Not something I'd usually listen to but back in my rink days, it was something I sure could skate to.

Back in 2015, I weighed over 240 pounds and in order to regain mobility due to my peripheral motor nerve condition, I knew that I had to get the weight off.
With the help of my wife, I changed my diet, joined the YMCA, went to spin class twice a week and starting lifting weights.
By 2020 I was 140 pounds and had some baggy skin. So, when we joined a different gym in 2020, I decided to try to fill that baggy skin with some lean mass. So far, 22 lean pounds up.
I could very easily gain weight. The hard part's gaining the kinda weight I wanna gain.

Pretty good workout yesterday. I have an old injury in my right shoulder and it's been bothering me lately so I decreased my workout weights and increased reps. It's feeling a lot better but I'm not gonna start pushing it, yet.
On my way home from the gym, I stopped by the gun shop to see what they had in the used gun cabinet.
They have a Smith and Wesson Shield in .30 super carry.
So, as I was on Lisa's elliptical for my home cardio today, I was watching videos comparing it to a 9mm Smith and Wesson Shield on my tablet and kinda lost track of my time and calorie use.
I ended up doing over an hour and a half and burned a bit over 700 calories.
Road trip tomorrow. I'll be sitting, relaxing and listening to tunes in my truck.

Today's cardio was indoors on Lisa's Elliptical for 'bout an hour.
Yesterday, it was a lot nicer and I went to our towns walking track.
Wasn't sure how I'd feel, Lisa and I usta walk laps on it when we didn't feel like gearing up for a hike or a bike ride.
Anyway, I found myself walking and talking to Lisa, reminiscing, planning meals and telling her what I've been doing with the house.
She reminded me that we have a bag of precooked, peeled and deveined shrimp in the freezer.
I lose track of how many laps I did. If I remember correctly, one lap's a quarter mile.
Anyway, workout day tomorrow.
