Location info

Not wanting to hijack the COURTESY thread I am starting this one.

When someone post a comment or story about their location it would be nice IF their location information is included, city and state.
Weather info, crime story, feel good story, ect is much more interesting if we know where it is at.

It might just be a pet peeve that only bothers me but if it is go ahead and flame away.

Edit to add:I say city & state because some states are real big so the city gets us closer.
I'm not asking for your street address.

I wonder why no one was paranoid about revealing their location back in the day when phone books published everybody with a telephone's address...

Maybe because back in the day everyone wasn't able to rant and rave anonymously in public? Yeah, that must be it. Used to be just lunatics on street corners.

Privacy issues? What can anyone find out from simply city and state if they don't know your name? Yes URLs can be tracked, but how many of us have that capability, or really care!

Break out a map of Florida. 28N and 81W is right about at the Triple N Ranch gun range just East of me. I'm smack dab in the middle, just off the road (US 192) from Melbourne to Disney. Can't miss it. Joe

I agree with OP. I go on a bushcraft forum once in awhile where members location is not obvious. You have to view personal info and even then it’s not always there. Especially when someone post a picture. It’s nice to know what I’m looking at.

Let's assume, I have a personal itch to get in Alk8944's face. I drive into Sandy, Utah and go in the first dinner I see and say "I'm looking for a "crusty" guy born around 1950 and did some gunsmithing and machine work and had been in the Army's 7th Inf Div.

I bet as far as the locals know from the information given, there are at least 3 guy's that meet most of that description! However, I don't think you are going to get any acknowledgment that anyone knows anyone of that description. But I bet Alk8944 gets a phone call notifying him of the person snooping around!
