What Has Happened to the Smith and Wesson Forum?

I think there are some people who wake up in the morning look in the mirror and say to themselves " today up is down and white is bllack and I'm going to an __________!!!!!

I think many people here are just used to being in a bubble and don't respond well when others disagree, view it as a personal attack, and immediately go low road, dragging the rest of the thread with them. I've experienced it myself when I dared to disagree about the quality of a certain manufacture. The personal attacks were immediate and lowbrow.

Some of the threads started lately make me wonder if an 'ignore thread' feature would be possible...at least for the ones not related to actual collecting/shooting info and fact.

Ah well, like everywhere else it seems these days more folks simply have to put in some rabble-rousing.

Best not to start a thread and get grief within 2 or 3 posts.
I'm sure I'm showing my age with this. Long ago I was told don't say or write anything that you wouldn't want to see on the front page of the New York Times [substitute your favorite newspaper]. It's probably saved me a lot of grief.

When I look at the revolver portion of the forum the antiques, the 1896 through 1961 and even the 1961 through 1980 don't have anywhere near the participation of newbies asking newbie questions which is fine we all want them to learn and become better but I have found it's almost a waste of time to try to post anything on the 1980 to present because it lasts about 30 seconds, Which I personally believe hinders the largest group of collectors from being able to carry on serious conversation about the pre-lock guns.
I absolutely am not trying to run the forum down in any way I just think a lot of us are being lost in this shuffle, and there's proof that there's too many on the 1980 to present date forum By just the sheer number watching per group. I personally believe that it should be split up from 1980 to 2000 and then from 2000 to present date. Which I think would better serve everybody involved.

The Boss has that covered ^^^^^^^^^ but no one is abiding. It’s in the Rule for 1980 to present.

If you're just here for the firearms content, browsing the firearms specific forums, you're very unlikely to see any posts that cause you any angst.

If you stray off into The Lounge or 2nd Amendment forum which are all about opinions, you're unlikely to see much of anything relating to specifics on S&W or any other firearms. But you'll probably easily see posts that offend you.

If you don't want the angst and offense, the best course of action is to restrain yourself from the temptation to go down into the basement.

Concealed Carry & Self Defense has some whoppers of food fights.

Where I see is a problem also! AND it is that we seem to all have differing opinions and will fight to the death as to why I am right and you are wrong!! Now the las time I checked we can have different opinions about anything and most everything BUT we can still be friends!!

Cant we??

Or, You just grow some hard bark and move on. The world we know and many of us grew up in, is over, and not coming back. It's still a pretty good world and there is a lot to like and enjoy. At the end of the day, nothing anyone discusses here is going to be earth shattering or life changing. The internet can be fun, but when it's not, step away, go reload, go shoot, go outside and touch grass and feel the sun.

If I've learned anything in my years on Planet earth, Life is change, so adapt.

s&wchad: Thank you for your effort. I do think you got a screw lose for putting up with people like me.

Laughing yourself to sleep :)
I'm one of the geezers. Took me a moment to figure out why it was a Z instead of an S. Some people just don't have the sense god gave a goose.

If you toss a hungry fox into a hen house, the result will be dead chickens. If you join a gun forum with the stated purpose, in their own words, of burning out the 2A zealots, the result will be angst and arguments. I also think there is a generational thing going on here. As the older folks fade away, a younger generation that grew up with the Roman Coliseum of our time, Facebook, takes over...many of them, not all but many, conduct themselves in a less than civil way. I don't think that respect of your elders is taught today. As for the new forum, I love it...it didn't take me long to realize what an improvement it is, can't imaging going back to the old one. This is all my opinion.

326MOD10, I suspect that it's the times we live in.
That's it, i suspect. 20 years ago I frequented a now-defunct forum for S&W fanciers, and everyone was over-the-top nice. Why? Because that's how civilized discourse was conducted, I guess. People have become more combative, more opinionated....or perhaps just more willing to defend their opinions forcefully. And in that spirit, I will state (forcefully) that social media is going to be the death of us.

We try very hard to maintain a peaceful environment. Every topic, no matter how one sided one may feel it is, has another side. Good constructive discussions are healthy for all, if for not other reason than to understand where others who do not share your opinion are coming from. Everyone here is expected to behave like respectful adults, not 11 year old keyboard commandos hiding in their rooms. State your feelings without descending into personal attacks. Keep this place the best gun forum on the internet.
