Is this pic before “fang” removal? What are the fangs?I understand that the dimensions of the follower includes a “no-bind” design.
Cutting off the “fangs” may compromise the anti-bind effect?

I picked up a 12 round mag today. Tried to load more than 10 it would not take 11. Took it apart and looking at the spring and how the coils are supposed to nest inside each other. A few measurements I found the small coils a bit to big and wouldn't nest inside the large coils. A slight squeeze with pliers on 2 coils fixed the problem. Now they take 12 rounds.

On my BG2 the chamber ramp was polished so it would shoot a bullet.
I had to cut the spring on the guide rod and “gunsmith” it so it would seat into the front of the slide without making love to it.
I can only get 9 rounds into the 10-round mag and 11 rounds into the 12-round mag.
I had to bang the crap out of my front sight with a hammer and punch to get it close to hit POA/POI.
Now I have to make love to my BG2 magazines!…I can “nest my coils with a slight squeeze” to get 12 rounds into my 12-round mag.
Why didn’t S&W make love to these magazines before putting them in the box?
I took my 12-round mag apart. I believe I see what you described and the "nesting coils". I tried 3 times after giving some squeezes to the coils that appeared to be anti-nesters. I gave up. I'll just carry 1 round short of a full mag.
However, your sharing of that tip is really nice.
Mine would only take 10 if it took 11 i would have left it alone.
As far as S&W fixing it we bought a gun built to a price point. This is the way of mass production now a days I ought to know I spent 45 years in it. Send it back they will fix it but how many get fixed or just ignored by the customer. I guarantee the cost of repairing a few is cheaper than tightening manufacturing tolerances.

Or, just push a finger into that hole when loading the third round until "you" have time to file it. It's not too big of a deal once you know what's going on.
