Left the island to take a break from the crowds.
Swung by one of my regular spots and as soon as I
stepped in the owner stated..."I just was thinkin of you yesterday".
She handed me this.
1981 vintage 66 2.5 inch slick as a pin.
No clue when it was strapped with the diamond grips.

Sigh!

When my son got out of the Marines I gifted him four handguns his pick no questions asked

Of course he took my pristine 66-1 snub as one of them.

I miss that gun

He lets me shoot it every time we visit though

Great score!

Score! I’ve already got one (a -3), but I’m still hoping to stumble across another, cuz who doesn’t love a perfect pair?

The vintage 2.5” Model 66 is superb, and the diamond grips are icing on the cake for me.

Grab it and DON'T LET GO... I have my 66-1, 2.5 snub I bought over 35 years ago. Paid $300 back then!!!

Mine has Eagle Secret Service stocks on it (back when they cost $85!!!)

That is it on the left. The other is a Ruger Security Six 2.75 inch bbl I bought about the same time. Turned it into a round butt and, yep, Eagle Secret Service Stocks. I still have them both today!!!

I've got mine from 1979. I was promoting to Sergeant and leaving the Rangemaster position for the Sheriff's Dept. I worked for. Henry Perez, of Cheshire & Perez, offered me a very hard to get 19-1 at his cost as a congratulation for the promotion. That revolver is one of my favorites. My best shot with it ever was a one shot kill on a coyote at a measured 85 yards. I love that little gun!

Here's my unfired no-dash 66 with an unfired Speed Six in 9mm:Screenshot_20250709_184125_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20250628_105539_Gallery.jpg

I'd consider the diamond stocks a plus, I put a set of aftermarket Altamonts on mine that have the diamond, but those are the real deal! I carry my 2-1/2' M66-1 quite frequently.

Excellent, and it's early enough to still have the large logo on right side. You did well !
M66-1 was the last series before it went smaller on the left side. I much prefer the large logo on the side plate myself.

Find a K frame RB Tyler-T and keep those S&W diamond stocks on!!! Make it retro!

Back in 01 my local gun dealer called and asked, if would be interested in a pair of 2.5" k-frame 357's his pastor was looking to sell. Having just bought a NIB 66 4" built in 76, I said sure. They turned out to be a 66 built in 78 and a 19-3 from 73 with pair of holsters. We struck up a deal and I enjoyed both the snubs, until I sold the 4" 66, still NIB, and rationalized, I only needed one snub. So had my dealer sell the 66 2.5".. In hind sight, I should have kept both 66's. Then. I would have 19 4" and snub for one boy and a pair of 66"s for the other. Oh well, I am sure they will work out who gets what. Their sister can referee. lol.

I think I have posted numerous times that this is my all time favorite Smith & Wesson revolver in that barrel length. I can't believe that at the ripe old age of 80 I have never owned one. I had two opportunities and can't believe that I did not pull the trigger, so to speak, on either of them.:(

If it was under $1k, I would have grabbed in a blink. I hoard prelock 2.5” 19/66s
The diamond handles are a definite bonus!

I recently picked up this 66 -2 at Bass Pro for $599, $550 after discounts and points, and this 19-7 at a show for about $500. Both are in mint condition.

I've got a 2.5" 66 but I don' have a pic, here is one of my 2.5" 19s - I had a 3" 66 for a breif period but somebody needed it more than me :(

I actually bought this gun at a LGS during "S&W Days" when they had a couple of gunsmiths from S&W doing trigger work - the guy did it in less than 10 minutes!
