Macular hole repair
Wondering if anyone has had the procedure with the gas bubble. I went on the Mayo Clinic site and it says no face down ?. and other sites say face down up to two weeks, I can't seem to find out how bad you have to be before they will do the procedure. I have a large hole in the right eye and a small one in the left eye. weird having no strait rifle barrels and strange looking cross hairs in scopes. Some days it seems better and some worse. Can't shoot open sights, but can still use a scope even though the cross hairs are squiggly. Any input would be great, don't like messing with my eyesight

I had a detached retina back in 2000 that was held in place by the bubble procedure. After a little laser action to spot weld the edges, he injected a small bubble of a hydrocarbon, propane I think. Body heat caused it to expand slightly to impose a small upward force on the retina to keep it in place. In my case, I had to stay reclined on my back, with my head tilted slightly to the right (the left eye was the one with the bubble) most of the day and night for 5 weeks. I could see the bubble moving around in my eye, and gradually it disappeared.
Sure beats a sharp stick in the eye.....................wait a minute, that what it was!!

I have a friend that had a macular hole and his was fixed with the bubble process and I believe he had to sleep on his tummy until it mended, I had to have a cornea replaced and had to sleep on my back for a length of time until it took, the Dr told me the bubble would hold it. Good Luck Jeff

I had a Macular pucker where the lining in front of the macular became wrinkled. Caused all lines to be crooked, etc. I had a surgery that removed this lining, and a gas bubble was used, because all the fluid was removed for the surgery. They used a bubble that would allow the fluid to gradually refill in the eye. I did not have to lie face down. Looking out that eye you could see the level of fluid gradually fill in over about two weeks.

I had the same as Dave & H Richard.......had both retinas detach.....7 years apart after lens replacement surgery(both eyes).......Both times gas bubble injected.......Both times had to live/sit/sleep sitting up for about 5 weeks till the vitris gradually replaced the gas in my eye.......funny thing when my eye got 1/2 full of vitris I could shake my head and see it slosh..........

I have a spot on my retina that looks like a drop of water on a camera lens in my left eye. I have had 3 shots 1 every 4 weeks, of a cemo therapy drug. The shot is injected in the eye ball, A miracle drug for me, almost back to normal. I'm just blessed it wasn't my shooten eye!!!
Good luck!

I've been getting the same shots for about a year in an eyeball that was cut during a fight over 30 years ago. over time it developed into a blind spot in the center of my vision that was on the verge of making me blind in that eye. there has been an improvement in my vision but it looks like it will be an ongoing treatment for me.
my other eye is also going bad mainly from age but at this point i'm just living with it, it's not fun getting old but it beats the alternative.

Bottom line ! Did the procedure work ? Gotta go back in Jan. to see if the holes have gotten larger and see what they recommend. Yes, old age is getting harder and harder.

I have had about 30 eye injections for a ruptured vein on my macular. Dr. said I will need to have one every 6-7 weeks if I want to keep what vision I have. Yes, it is my "shootin" eye. Well as my sister says, "life is a bitch, then you die".
