Was browsing locally when I saw a 13-3 (4") wearing target grips and marked SACTO Sheriff below the cylinder on the left side. Some finish wear but mechanically excellent and marked at $399. I suppose you know the rest of the story...

The SN dates it to 1981 which was the year I graduated from HS. I'm guessing that SACTO is likely Sacramento, CA. Does anybody happen to know if that agency ever issued Model 13's?

I need to stay out of gunshops when I have my checkbook with me.

Congratulations! Where are pics? I never carry a check book. That is what Visa is for, plus I get points that lead to other treasures. Enjoy the 13! Bob

You are correct, the Sacramento CA sheriffs had those. They dumped them on the secondary market in the mid-late 1990s if I recall correctly. A chain in California (Turners Outdoorsman) was selling them for the whopping sum of $199 each.

At the time $199 was lots for me, but I bought one that was hardly used. I sold it to fund something else. I regret that sale and hope to find a SACTO marked one somewhere down the line.

Congratulations.

Picked up this one today for $325. They also threw in the holster, although I had to supply the shield...

...And I thought only us Eastern LEOs called them "shields!"

Stay safe, partner. Retired or active, getting uglier out there.

Shield #5103

'Badge' is the usual term out here, but I felt this gun needed a 'shield' reference. [emoji6]

I'm retired almost 2 years and glad I'm out. I miss the streets but not the admin headaches. And I can honestly say I've never seen a more hostile, anti-cop environment. Not even after Rodney King. I feel for those still protecting and serving and putting it on the line for a largely ungrateful public.

Be careful out there, you guys that are still working and remember, us retired farts got your backs!

I sold my 36, at Sept. gun show. Money was burning a hole in my pocket. My impulse buy was a 13-2. It looked so lonely & pretty sitting there. VERY low round count. Never looked at 13's before. When it went to the range, I shot it like an old favorite. Bob

I agree with everything you stated except the part where you mention "a largely ungrateful public. I believe there are pockets of these people and recently they have become very vocal. Plus the newsies fuel the fire for their ratings. I think we are supported by most of the public based on my experiences. But that is not news worthy now is it?

I too bought one back in the 90's. or thereabout, and sold it for some unexplained reason (big mistake). The really great thing about them was that they well used, not abused, and you could carry then about under the front seat of the truck, or where ever, and not do them any further harm. Great find, great price.

Enjoy the 13-3. It is getting bad out there. Believe it or not, I believe most of us civies actually support you LEO's. My son is MA4 guarding a Naval facility. All lives matter, except for the idiots and terrorists out there as far as I am concerned, and if you pull a gun on a LEO, you deserve to be put down! Take care gents....

Nice gun! I live near Sacramento and have a 3" 13-3 said to have been owned by s retired FBI agent. I really like that Sac stamp on yours which is a great holster gun.
