    Decapping LIVE primers?

Yep- put on the glasses, go slow, I've done it many times. Unlike Hovnnes though, I don't re-use them.

Mod 66 No Dash Stainless rear sight, red ramp front sight correct?

I have never seen an all stainless sight 66 with a red ramp. But, this means nothing, s&w may have very well made some. I have one with all stainless sights and while I wouldn't cut out the front sight to put a red ramp in, I would be tempted to replace the rear sight with black and put a little...

Where do you cast your bullets?

I cast in the garage doorway, with all windows and one other door opened, detached from house, on a mixture of grass and rocks. It usually goes well...until I flux. No matter how the wind is blowing before I flux, it always blows back on me when I flux. My personal technique is to "flux and...

    Model 10-6 Purchase

I recently picked up a 10-7 snub here in southern Indiana in what I would guesstimate to be about 75-80% for $294 including tax. At the time I really didn't know what they was going for, but it just seemed wrong to let it set on the shelf at that price:) So, it doesn't sound like too bad a deal...

Thinking of reloading. How much would I save?

I don't have anything to add beyond the excellent responses so far, except this- reloading will cost you in other ways. It's the dark side of reloading. 1. You're wife and general other family members will wonder why you give lectures on "I need to be left completely alone when reloading."...

    My last 629s

Both are very sweet peices. As the others have said, I wouldn't let them go. I own a 6.5" 629-5 and haven't handled any with 8 3/8" barrels. Do all 8 3/8" barrels have the scope base cut outs on the barrel like yours in the picture?

    686 Trigger pull

The very best way I've found to improve a Smith trigger pull is to go buy or rent a NEF and Charter Arms revolver. After two cylinders, go back to the Smith, you'll find it just got incredibly better:) Just playing. I would think the trigger would improve from shooting. My stock factory 686...

    Nickel finish peeling

I'm sorry to hear about that- it's pretty heartbreaking. I had a gorgeous model 29 nickel that I was always in constant fear of that happenning. I would look into getting it fixed or else it's just going to keep getting worse (unless you just want to keep the gun as a tacklebox gun or...

Help me solve a bad trigger habit?!

All are good suggestions here- the only thing I might add is possibly a spring kit. Such has made a world of difference in shooting j-frames for me.

    Cleaning nickel

Use Hoppes Elite- unlike #9, it's not ammonia based. I used it extensively on my model 29 with nary a problem. For polishing, a thin, occasional use of simichrome shines it right up.

    Model 29 8 3/8" Nickel Value

$1000 seems a bit steep. Somewhere in the $600-$800 range is closer to reality in my part of the country. There is also a price difference between 29-2 and 29-3, with the premium going to the 29-2.

    500 vs 460 Trajectory

Thanks JohnnieB. Number crunching is fun, and in this case has seriously lead me to take another look at the 500 before I purchased a 460. For my intended purposes (whitetails) it probably wouldn't matter much with either. Nevertheless, it has given me a whole new outlook at bc. I never would...

Darted into a pawn shop - Out with a 66 no dash

There's nothing you could do, it's simply irresistible. I remember when I purchased mine I looked it over, asked if I could try the trigger, tried and said, "Get the paperwork ready."

Darted into a pawn shop - Out with a 66 no dash

Nice! I've got one exactly like it, total stainless sights and all. Sweet shooter and the very best trigger of all my revolvers. Enjoy!

    500 vs 460 Trajectory

I took your suggestion and looked around for equal bullet weights and designs. I couldn't find a real match. What I did find was a 300 gr buffalo bore load (lead, flat point, bc .199). Even at 2400fps its drop still exceeds the 500 load. Admittedly, this is still not an "apples to apples"...

    500 vs 460 Trajectory

@JohnnieB- that actually is helpful in understanding what my calcs are seeing because the 500's 300gr bullet has a much higher bc (.200) against the 460 with 200gr Hornady. Even though the 500's velocity is slower and its heavier, that bc could be what's making all the difference. I guess I just...

    500 vs 460 Trajectory

Folks, I need to see if I am right or not on this. I was playing around the other night with numbers on the 460 and 500. Using 200gr Hornady polymer tips and 300gr 500 polymer tips, both at factory loads, I found that the 500 actually shot flatter than the 460. Or, I suppose I should say that...
