Which revolver should I add to my collection?

If you have the money, the 27 all the way. That being said, a 686 is a must for every S&W revolver collection. But the 27 should come first because of the limited availability.

New member with a new TRR8!

Ive been wanting one for a few years now, but everytime I get the chance to get one, I end up buying something else. One day I will have the opportunity and jump on it. Congrats on an awesome gun!

    What to do ?

Keep your 586, Ive had both the newer 686 and one from the same era as your 586. Both are great guns, but I would keep the older one in a heart beat over the newer one.

Is the frequency of lemons increasing?

I completely agree with this theory! Im not saying that the frequency of lemons isnt a little more than decades ago, but I think the consumer being able to share their issues with others so easily makes bad news travel fast.

    29-3 Classic Hunter

I picked one up earlier in the year just like that one at about 90-95%. I sold it for $950. Great feeling gun and not all that common. They were a Lew Horton run. Pick it up either way. If you can get the cash, cheaper is better, if not, put your name on it and have them shove it behind the counter.

    Watch out plates!

Well I found another issue with the gun. Its not a quality control issue or anything that is broken, but a dislike. The rail is nearly useless for what I want. The recoil grooves are only about .150" wide when most modern mounts, especially quick release mounts have cross bolts closer to the...

    Watch out plates!

Last fall I started shooting 50 yard plate matches in rimfire and in centerfire. I set up a 686-6 that I picked up really cheap with a quick release mount, red dot and modified front iron sight. Well I had the new gun bug and decided to upgrade! I moved some guns around and picked up this...

    SOLD. WTS/WTT prewar 38/44 outdoorsman

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago on a whim, but its just not for me. It's a 38/44 outdoorsman dating to around 1934. I'm going to say about 60% cosmetic condition, but great mechanical. The insides are CLEAN. Someone tried doing something with the gold bead front sight, but it still sits...

    M69 in the water

I can completely disassemble a S&W revolver in a matter of just a few minutes. I'm talking down to every last pin and spring. It's actually pretty simple if you understand what every piece does.

    It's alive

    Sexiness! I love it

    Thoughts on this trade

Keep the 66. Everytime I have traded a gun no longer in production for something that is currently in production, I kick myself in the rear.

    Rookie needs help!

Yes it is perfectly normal. The scandium alloy magnums have the blast shields and the carbon and stainless do not. the 586 will do just fine without it. Over time flame cutting is normal on the 586 with many hot loads. just shoot and enjoy, no worries.

    38/44 outdoorsman ?

Thanks for the info guys, I bought it on a whim and im not looking into putting anything into it to fix the sights. Gonna enjoy it for a short time and then probably sell it to move onto something else. So if anyone is interested, let me know.

    38/44 outdoorsman ?

Thanks, the bore is beautiful. I just put 12 rounds through her and she is a tack driver. Cant wait to shoot her from a rest and see what she can really do. Still looking for a value if anyone has an opinion.

    38/44 outdoorsman ?

It does have the factory gold bead sight but some jackwad decided to try to cut it some. The same person probably couldn't figure out how to adjust the rear sight so decided to just cut the notch a little in the direction they needed. Here are better pics.

    38/44 outdoorsman ?

I just picked this up at a pawn shop. appears to be a 38/44 outdoorsman. sn 41877. I know the grips are wrong and im guessing its about 60%. Someone tried to clean it up in the wrong way. the front has a gold insert, but appears to be altered. I will get more info later and better pics, but can...

    S&W model 19

I often think of gun trades and deals like this. If there is something I want that is either hard to find or out of production, I will gladly trade off something that I can easily replace for it.

Found a nice 581, info please

I saw you post this on the facebook group, extremely beautiful example of an early game changing frame size from S&W. If I were a little closer, I would try digging through my safe for some trade fodder.

    "Super K", 66-4, Performance Center...new

Ive been a member of this forum for 9 years or so and this is probably the most envious I have been in that time. I have fallen in love with pictures of other members firearms, the common and not so common, but the Super K has been something I have, long ago, accepted was only a dream for me...

Smith 686 Competitor Lew Horton price advice

Is it possible that back in the early days of the PC that you could send in one of your guns and pay to have it modified to the specs of one of their special runs including getting the PC rollback?
