Has S&W sent any compliant versions to dealers in those states that require it? If not is there any info on when they will be available? Can a non-compliant version be transformed by pinning the stock and altering the magizine to limit it to 10 rounds?

Anybody have any answers?

It sounds like S&W has a winner with the M&P15-22. Several friends have standard versions and are very satisfied with them. I am seriously considering purchasing one, but being from NJ I will need a compliant one.

The linked rifle is indeed for sale in MA for sure. Buddy has one. Something wrong with his stock, though, as it telescopes just like mine.

I just went to the source and e-mailed my question about availability to S&W. The reply I received said 4-6 weeks yet on the compliant version.

I noticed what appears to be an error on the Smith & Wesson website under the complient model. If you look at the complient model "related items" it doesn't show or offer the 10 round magazine, it just shows the 25 round magazine.

I wonder if Smith will ever get around to selling 10 round mags?

Well, I guess they're just saying those magazines are available, as they are designed for the same rifle. It's probably listed there for the benefit of the people who might buy the compliant rifle even though their state doesn't require it.
For example, a guy like me in Indiana might buy one so it came with the 10 round magazine. I don't care about the fixed stock, and the small mag would be good for bench rest shooting.

Here's the listed specs, copied from the S&W site:

i wonder the same thing.. me and a couple other guys on here have our fingers crossed
I emailed Smith a couple weeks ago and asked when the 10 round mags and such items as extra barrels (threaded) and extractors might be available. They replied "give it a few more weeks"...

hi

I live in NY. We have them at one store and they are selling like crazy but the dealer said why dont you email S&W and ask them when they are going to ship the damn 10 round mags. So once i get the email back monday i will know. But as i have read on here it is going to be a few weeks so my dream gun is going to have to wait. The first time in the gun store was not to long ago and i saw this on the shelf on a poster and i was like i want that one. and ever since then it has been a wild goose chase.

I found a post on another forum that said 12/09, but who really knows is the back room at S&W. I'm sure mags with rifles come first. Maybe after the first of the year we'll see individual sales open up.

Anyone shot the 10rd mag yet? Was wondering if the magazine hangups exist in the shorter mags or not.

Hey Ltc, pm me when ya get a chance. I just might be able to help ya out.. ;)

Well I took the jump last night. I purchased a 15-22 from a local dealer I have delt with in the past. He had several non-compliant ones converted to compliant by having the stock drilled and pinned with a small roll pin. He also had the 25 round mag limited to the legal NJ limit by the same process.

The work was well done and barely noticable. I hope to get it to the range this weekend for an itnital workout.

If that satisfies the requirement, good deal. Add a punch and a mallet to the SHTF kit.

There is a restrictor on eBay to make the 30 round mags able to hold only 10. I talked to S&W today and they said the first 10 round mags to ship are only going to go out with the compliant rifles. The customer service guy there could not even buy one. He said to look for the 10rd mags end of Jan. early Feb. possibly. The threaded barrel option will come out April, maybe. The compliant ones will have a compensator and the non compliant ones will have a flash supp.
