16 shots in 4 seconds!!

I was there with my Dad in 1999 when Jerry Miculek did the twelve rounds in 2.99 seconds. It was simply amazing! I still don't know how he did it on that day. It was literally 110*F in the shade of the tent that you see behind him.

:DWas able to fondle the 929 at the NRA show in Indy. Just what I was afraid of, I'm in WANT mode.

Jerry is awesome! He is to us what the greatest shooters of yesteryear were to that generation! The whole family is full of compatition shooters!

How does the weight or construction of the cylinder have anything to do with this? He has already fired 8 shots in one second flat with an 8 shot 627 and .38 Special loads using a stainless steel cylinder. I don't think he needs a titanium cylinder to set any records.

His records will stand forever because he is the only elite revolver shooter in this day and age who uses full power springs. Time and again he articulates the need for full power springs to power the trigger forward fast enough to set these records. The younger shooters are all obsessed with obtaining the lightest DA trigger pull possible and they will never be able to touch his speed shooting records.

You're right; he doesn't need titanium cylinders to set records.

What titanium cylinder do for him (and anyone else) is reduce inertia. The titanium n frame cylinder with 8 rounds of 9mm weighs less than half of a steel n frame cylinder. An 8 shot cylinder only has to be rotated by the hand 45 degrees as opposed to 60, and it also weighs less than half of a steel .45 cylinder.

But most importantly, as I mentioned first, it's the inertia. The sudden stop at the end of the rotation is hard on the cylinder stop notches and when steel guns are fired fast and fired often this way, they peen. Peening messes with the timing and can result in skipped charge holes. Only having to stop half as much weight really helps make the gun hold up to going fast often.
