.22 LR Shortage Is Over - NO WAY ! !

Yesterday, at the local Walmart, a new sign was posted. It limited the amount of 22 to three boxes of 50, or one box if it contained 100 or more. It was the first time I had seen a limit posted. Think it will help?

That sign has been posted for months at my local Walmart hasn't helped so i wouldn't hold your breath.

MY preferred WM store's limit has been 3 boxes of .22, any variety/count. Another store a few miles away limits on total rounds (not more than 200 if more than one box is involved, so 4 x50, 2x100, or 1 >200). And I've seen other variations. All they do is stretch the boxes out to more people in line. Rarely is there anything on the shelf, maybe shorts or longs, but that's it.

How come some inventive guy hasn't figured out how to reload 22 LR. If it happens there will be a run on lead crappie jigs at, walmart.

Brings back memories. I grew up on a base, and during the week they would let us kids dig the berms for lead before the engineers piled on another few feet of clay. I would come home with 10 - 20 pounds, strip the copper jackets off, and melt the lead for fishing weights and cast lead soldiers. I had almost forgotten that completely.

Thanks for stirring the memory.

I haven't seen any 22LR at either of the 2 Walmart's here in town for over a year! Before that, on the rare occasion that they did get some in, it was usually the ultra cheap stuff such as Remington Golden Bullets.

It's still far too expensive at the gun shop on the west end of town but, I managed to pick up a 500 round brick of ArmScore high velocity at a gun shop on the SE end for $35.00 a few days ago.

22

Went to Pro Bass Shop in San Antonio and found the shelf full of CCI 22LR, 300 Rd boxes and 100 Rd boxes. Also had 22 Mag. 300 Rd box of tactical 40 grain CP-RN was $21.00
One box limit. At the right place at the right time.:)

The only thing that will stop this is coordinated effort, nobody buys .22lr for a month. The manf's will freak and get real. Same would have worked for gasoline but only one or 2 days of not buying could have changed their tune. $50/bbl oil made action unnecessary. Joe

True, but you know that will never never happen.

22 Ammo

The availability of 22 ammo varies widely, in the eastern Pennsylvania area. Around Philadelphia 22 ammo is scarce and many times overpriced I recently stopped in a gun shop and they had bricks of no name 22's at $70.00 a brick. Big box stores don't get a lot of ammo and when they get it the product sells out quickly. Dicks Sporting Goods tell me that when they get bricks of 22's they break it open and sell the 50 round box's individually.
Change the area slightly and drive north past the Allentown area. Smaller gun shops and army navy stores have ammo to sell and prices that are affordable. You can get Federal 325 packs for $29.00. Bricks of 500, are sometime available and the price is always under $50.00. I have 7 grad kids so I never pass up 22's when I see them.

Seems high priced to me.
I am looking into getting good pump up or air soft rifles for my Grands. Just waiting on their Dads ok.

Not as long as people feel compelled to buy it up the second it hits the shelves or websites even though they have already hoarded up a generous amount. I swear I think some people are just too obsessive compulsive for their own good. It's like they are just collecting 22LR. Or maybe it's just being a little too competitive. Or both.

Yes. I've started to fall into that and I am new to all this. Part of it is the hunt, the excitement (a peek inside my exciting life haha) but part of it is the fact I can't walk in and buy it. I have a paltry to 800 rounds on hand with 1500 in transit so I am still looking for more. Yesterday's range trip I used up 300+

Made a trek to my closest cabelas to pick up the 3 online orders of 22lr i had (a whopping 425 rounds), make a return of some stuff and hopefully pick up some more and I found myself standing in line to get in at 750 AM. I think it's time re-evaluate things but it was fun to watch the old white guys run to ammo section.

I think there is confusion over this long, over discussed topic. Yes there is a shortage if you are still thinking of .05 per round being the norm and being able to walk in to your local retailer and picking up a brick for $25. There is no shortage if you are willing to concede to those days being over and the new norm being .10 per round and found mostly online. I see it regularly on a site named NORTHERN FIREARMS on GB with free shipping in desirable brands such as CCI and Federal for .08 per round but you have to be willing to spend a little and buy 5000 rounds. You could always sell a little to your buddy's if that quantity is to much of an investment. I think it is safe to say that the manufacturer won this war, and yes it is over. Just go to a site like gunbot and compare the amount of .05 per round to even last year and it is practically nonexsistant. Good Luck
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, I have not paid over .07 per round in the last 2 years and have found quite a bit for around .05 per round. Is it hard to find? Yes it is but it does show up at Wally World, Dick's and Cabela's. One recent purchase was a 222 pack of Winchester for $10.99 (4.9 cents per rnd) at Walmart. They had 3 boxes behind the counter, I had to ask. I could have bought all three but I picked up only one, figured it was good karma to leave some for another shooter. Another pick up was at Dick's and it was a 1400 round bucket for $69.99 (Once again, 4.9 pennies per round) and I split the bucket with my buddy. I have also purchased a number of 325 count Federal Auto Match for $16.99 (5.3 cents) at various retailers. It seems like the hardest to find is the 525 bulk packs of Federal Champion but I still have run across some at $22-26 per box.
The problem is everyone grabs ever box they can when they see it on the shelf and a good portion of those purchases end up online and at guns shows at a steep markup. If everyone would just relax and leave a few boxes on the shelves when it's in stock and especially refuse to pay $50-70 per box to scalpers things would return to normal.

bbqbill51, I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE YOU ARE LIVING, BUT YOU BETTER NOT RELOCATE…..

I SIGNED ON FOR A NOTICE FROM MIDWAY, TO INFORM ME WHEN THEY HAD CCI MINI MAGS ON THE SHELVES. THEY SENT ME AN E-MAIL, AND I WENT TO THEIR SITE ABOUT 1/2 HOUR LATER. THE AMMO WAS ALREADY LISTED AS "OUT OF STOCK". WHAT A JOKE ! ! !

If manufacturers would put ammo on the shelves, the scalpers and hoarders would disappear via attrition immediately.

Demand drives market value and market value determines price. There's no incentive to catch up supply with demand because the market is driving up prices. The manufacturers are 100% in control and have been the whole time. Anybody that believes any differently is either disillusioned or fooling themselves. Period.

Midway is a joke when it comes to buying .22 ammo. The biggest problem is you are just one of tens of thousands that have signed up for for that notice. The second they get the notice they jump all over it. In case they miss it there are folks posting notices on sites like this which adds to the stampede.
Midway is also a problem for me because of the shipping charges. I order from Cabela's a lot and they frequently have free or reduced shipping and when not offered I have it come to the store which is always free. I got one of those 2100 steel ammo cans full of Federal Champion from them about a year ago and it was shipped to my door for free.

Got 3 Winchester 555 bricks today at my local W/M. $27.88 ea. Walked in at 1:15 pm and they were just stocking the ammo. They got in a case. Was also told the stocking of ammo was being changed daily to give everyone a chance.

Two weeks ago at a WM in Ashland,KY. I bought a 325 count of Federal bulk pack for $19.50 + tax, but Sat. At a LGS, I bought three 50 count boxes of Federal for $2.99 each, just bought three, didn't want to get hoggish. I already have plenty. This morning a friend went to the LGS latter in the day and they were gone.
