I have a 28-2 Highway Patrolman 4" purchased off Gunbroker a short time ago. Just fired maybe 15 rounds through it. While cleaning I notice that if I rock it back and forth or shake there is what sounds like a very small loose part inside. I removed the grips and did not find anything. It locks up tight, action seems to work fine. Whatever I am hearing is within the frame. I'm not much of a gunsmith so I don't want to remove the side plate if not necessary.

Any thoughts?

Yep - transfer bar is working properly! If you look at a schematic it looks like a flag with one end riding the rebound slide and the other end is in front of the hammer. Prevents the gun from firing if the hammer is knocked forward without the trigger being pulled.

So that's a good thing, right? Normal sound?

Could also be the trigger stop rod inside the rebound slide spring.

I hear the same thing and for a minute I thought I bought a lemon. This is good to know. Thanks.
The serial number dates it to 1968-69.
