Hi all!
I just traded for a fun revolver. It is a 4 screw Model 29 with 8 &3/8" barrel. What makes it shooter grade in my opinion is that it has been refinished in what I think is hard chrome. No original grips but I have a pair of Herretts I will install. Guns like this are still shooter/ field carry grade right? Seeing some of the rapidly escalating prices of high grade examples has me doubting my plan to hunt with it. Any wisdom or opinions are welcome!

Collector interest is mostly gone as are the "coke" stocks that would have been on it originally; too bad as the 29 no dash guns are not all that easy to find. Don't think I've ever seen one in 8 3/8. Still a great gun though and hard chrome is a really good finish. Hunt with it? Definitely. Not sure of value, guess I'd go by the "most any N frame is worth $1000" and start there. Good luck.

Judging by the recoil shield/ breach and cylinder face, I say it's been shot plenty. You ain't gonna hurt it (or the value)….might as well use it.

I carried and shot my one of 14 no-dash Model 29's with the 5.5" barrel. I would certainly have no qualms about using a hard chrome refinished gun.

Yes, shoot it with ordinary 240 grain Magnums or Specials. I recommend you not use bullet weights above 250 grains, and certainly none of the crazy "silhouette loads."

Carry that gun around at the next gun show and people will tell you it is stainless steel and probably miss stamped. When you lay it next to a SS gun you will see the difference in color. Shoot it and enjoy it, it is hard to damage the finish!

Thanks everyone. It is fun to shoot! Need some Herretts to fit my hands better though!
