I started this pole so hopefully we can get a ratio of .40 Shields that are not blowing up to ones that are. Please vote if you own and have shot your .40 S&W M&P Shield.

In the real world out there, the ratio of happy owners versus owners with problems would likely be in the ten to hundred thousands to one range.

Here on the S&W forum, as is probably true on most other maker's forums, the ratio will be much much lower. The vast majority of happy owners out there do not participate in forums such as this one. However a good percent, possibly even a majority of owners who show up here, are looking for answers for problems or telling their stories about their problems.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper. No kaboom.

I don't own the .40 shield but a friend of mine loves his. A ftf is all I've heard him say, def no kaboom

The Kaboom issue is much like the mag drop and trigger safety issue. There are far more with no issues as compared to ones with issues. You will hear a complaint over an issue before u will hear anyone complain over no issues. Its just the way things work around here.

Which is why some of us like to turn the tables from time to time and poke a little fun.

Like yours, mine goes kaboom every time I pull the trigger until the mag is empty.

Mine is great. I did have a mag drop issue. I sent it back, they replaced a piece, and gave me an extra mag! Since then i have put about 1000 rounds (at least) without a single problem.

Every time i go to the range i shoot it in the exact condition ive been carryin... Meaning i draw and shoot as it was, without emptying mags. It helps my comfort level.

Anyway... Lots of rounds through it and going strong

I appreciate your interest in number crunching.

Right now there are just over 500 people on the M&P link.

Don't want to pop the Engineers bubble but 500 folks minus out everyone who does not own a 40 Shield from the 500 and you don't have a large enough sample to make it statistically significant.

I have had a total of 4 different shields. 2 x .40 and 2 x 9mm. Only one of the 4 has kaboom. How do I vote? :D

Vote for the KaBoom Wally. That's what we're really looking for in this poll.
Thanks for voting,
Rob

Maybe 1000 fired here with no issue. No issues at all. Thinking I will not participate in hanging chad today. :p:)

If you have ever had any gun self destruct in your hand directly in front of your face or even in the guys hand beside you, you would understand that, that one incident TRUMPS all the other "mine works fine" comments period. Which makes this poll pretty redundant.

So, what does that mean exactly? That we should expect our Shield to blow up each and every time we fire it? If so, I'll lay my firearms down and never pick them up again because they MAY blow up in my face and kill me and the people around me.
All I'm trying to do here is get a ratio of how many Shields blow up vs. how many don't. The poll is only as good as the people who choose to vote in it.
So as it stands now, we have a 6.5% chance it will blow up and a 93.5 percent chance it won't.
In my opinion, if more people would honestly vote in my poll, the ratio would be closer to 99% have not blown up. But I guess we will never know.

First time posting. I have a 40 shield, fired around 400 rounds of various ammo with not one single issue. Out of all the pistols I've owned this one is by far my favorite and the one I carry every day. My first round fired date from s&w is 10/2013. Thanks for this thread and hope this helps.
