681 back from Pinnacle

That just means our unmodified 681s are worth a little more.
Like a Hotrod 32 Ford versus an original well stored 32 Victoria.
No matter how much gets invested making the hotrod an all-original Ford, because not many get left unmodified in some way.

I have a NYSP 681 below that will remain as is. If I find a 581, it will get the same treatment.

If I want another 681 I’ll pay the price asked, it’s only money. Thousands were made.
No one noticed the gun was modified anyway, look at the front sight, a red insert was added, so not original.

Keith44special has cut down and modified Registered Magnums    amongst other pre war guns that are valuable.

I’d buy one of his guns in a heartbeat, he is a craftsman.

I dare one person to say they wouldn’t want to own this butchered 581.

But we are way off track here.

I agree with oysterer on this one.

I know, it's your gun , do with it whatever you want.

But would it have been more cost effective to buy a 686+ which comes with a 7 round cylinder and round butt, and just have the barrel cut down? And maybe have the sights changed/modified?

Again, your gun, your call. But I'd never have my 681 ND modified.

JMHO YMMV

This is the only handgun I have ever modified. It started life as a standard Model 65 SB and I sent it to Mag-Na-Port, and they rounded the butt and ported the barrel.

Then it went to a gunsmith who smoothed the action and removed the SA notch from the trigger. The action job and about 4,000 rounds have made this one of the smoothest triggers I have ever seen on any S&W.

I sure would! But I still prefer the 4" barrel.

Whew, that came out nice!! Looking forward to your range report. I'm a big fan of Mark's work, he's done a couple of revolvers for me. Top shelf 'smith and a great guy to deal with.

Mark is no Bubba. You pay for these top notch smiths. I know you’ve done a few conversions with him, all well done.
