So tell me if you all think I am missing something.. The grip screw on my 686 Plus is stripped so I emailed S&W to ask could i get a replacement screw and was told to send the grip back. So i replied back asking why I can't just get the screw, it would cost more in shipping then the screw cost. Surprisingly it took 3 days for the reply stating that they can't supply just the screw and it needs to be sent back grip and all...and I could send the receipt for the shipping and they would pay that back. This baffles me but heck I am a sales guy not a customer service rep.... This can't be a very uncommon screw its the one that keeps the black wood grips on that says 357 on it...I see them all the time. Seems pretty easy get the screw, stick it in an envelope and drop in the mail....am I missing something?

I think I would be calling a gunsmith or two and see if they have the needed screw. Gas and cost of the screw with their markup would be cheaper then sending it to the mothership.

I have found that calling S&W customer service ALWAYS works and works faster and usually provides the results that I am seeking...…..forget the email route.

I called S&W Customer Service and asked if I could buy a set of Grips just like the new Model 66 come with. The nice lady sent me a new set of grips at no charge! I found out later they will sell the grips for around $35 a set
Just call and tell them the grip screw stripped and I bet they will send you a complete new set. Email with Smith and Wesson is a waste of time. I think there is someone that just answers emails and blows customers off

About 3 years ago, I slightly buggered up the slot of the blued yoke retention screw on my M66-8 (used the wrong screwdriver). I called S&W customer service to see if I could buy one. They sent me 4 (four) in a little plastic bag for free! I have nothing but good things to say about S&W CS after having several dealings with them.

Call Customer Seervice, and if they can't send you one, Midway, Brownells, etc have them. Keep in mind to order the one to fit your gun, as these have changed over the years, and are now allen head instead of slotted for a screw driver.
