6906

I carried a 6906 as one of my uniform duty guns for many years before switching to a 3913. The 6906 was the perfect size and weight, and with 5900 magazines and a magazine adapter, held the same number of rounds as a 5906 but with less weight. I used a high-ride duty holster and had no difficulties with catching on seats, etc.
I used mostly IWB for off-duty when I carried the 6906, but that was not an every-day practice.
All in all, I think you made a great decision to get it and I think you'll enjoy its features and big-gun ability in a compact size.
By the way: the adapters are made by Precision Gun Specialties and go for $10 each. I had them not only on the mag in my gun, but also my 2 spares in the pouch. Because of their contoured shape, you can easily use them concealed, too. Look for "Plus 2".

Thanks for the info. I P.U. a 6946 it came w/2 of these. I have
been looking for more. Thanks again.

Crossbreed

I could not decide if I liked, Them or not so I bought 2 of them. I did like them. Both of them have the squared trigger guard. I think I paid about $ 340.00 for each of them. I carried one of them off duty for a while. Holsters are hard to find for them. I finally found one at a gun show.

Crossbreed makes excellent holsters for this gun.
Take a look at their Super Tuck.
Five stars, both for products, sand service.
Best,
Gary

(And now that you have a 6906, wait a few days and the fever to get a 3913 or 14 will hit...and after that you'll be looking for a Chief's Special in 9, 40, and 45, and then...and then...and then.)

Oh! That is so true. For me in almost exactly that order.
I was at the range today with my newly acquired CS40, and I love it.
I got my 3913 from the classifieds here on this forum. The only difference is the magazine capacity, it is exactly like a 6906 up top and down range. If I knew, I prolly never would have bought it, but now I ain't sellin'

I got the old 6906 out of retirement a few weeks ago and fell in love all over again. At 15 yards, with 147 grain HST's, I was Michael Jordan swishin' the center of that paper! What? Ahh well no I guess I threw those targets away..hehe.. but you can believe me, yeah!

Congrats on your new baby.
As God wills, may you never make a hole that bleeds.

Fine leather Holsters from PUSAT $35.00 each

Great find !! I love My 6946 & 6944 DOAs, they are a concealable size, excellent smooth triggers and great shooters for being DOA.

As far as holsters go, My 6946, 6944, all my 59 series, and 40 series and CS 9 40 45 fit in a holster I ordered from Pusat which is a manufacturer of leather holsters in Turkey. It is a lovely black leather pancake style exactly like the Don Hume (which I bought just for my Sig MK25 but also fits my sw e series 1911TA, 4506 4516 adequately) and slightly thicker leather than the Don Humes, and for less than half the price. I got 2 holsters for $70.00 delivered...not American made, but I'm ok with that...excellent craftsmanship, and I'm a little bit Armenian anyhow.

If you order from Pusat, it does take a few weeks but it was $35.00 Delivered...hard to beat. It is nice to not have that dreaded "Box of holsters" that don't get used. I also ordered a Pusat holster in Tan/brown for my j frame PC Model 60-15 .357. It is IMO gorgeous and fits perfectly. I included a picture of the tan holster. Hope this info is helpful.

Got my 6906 for free!

It was issued (brand new) to me in 1990. Because I had kept it for longer than 10 years, the property room filled out the state paperwork (transferring it out of the City / Departments name, to me) when I walked out the door (retired) in 2007. Sure beat the skinny 6" barrel S&W model 10, I was originally issued in 1980.

Loved the gun. Had my ID # engraved on the frame and name / rank engraved on the slide prior to retiring. Never failed me. My son (active LE same department) will get it when they plant me.

Congrats on your new acquisition!

Judging by the number of responses appears the 6906 is very popular !

I grew up on the Model 59 and 39-2 , when the 2nd gens were introduced was enamered with the Euro style square trigger guard and humongous rear winged sight of the 459 but that faded, eventually went back to my Model 59,
When the new 3rd gens were introduced was a bit shocked, plastic Delrin monogrip...what?.....no thanks.

FF 20 some years and I finally came to appreciate them.

Have a 3953, 6906, PC9 and two Shorty .40's.
I like them all...except I still hate that hideous black mono grip.
Was perusing the classifieds the other day and saw that someone had sold I think a slide? but included a hydro dipped delrin grip so it looked like wood without the pitfalls of a wood monogrip...VIOLA!!!

I am now looking around for a local hydro dip place!

Btw I can't really recommend a modern holster because through the 3 generations I have acquired a box full that they all fit.

Mine lives in a Bianchi #7L (a right haned holster). Easily one of my favorite firearms.

These days I prefer shoulder holsters. I guess I should get one for this guy.

Oooooh - I like those grip panels!

I picked a 6906 up in an auction about 5 years ago, and only bought it because it was so cheap (<$200). I had no desire for it. One day I took it to the range because I had not shot it after a couple of years. I liked it so much, I retired my EDC and now it is my carry gun.

is the pierce adapter like the S&W 24212 adapter, or a simple slide on sleeve? I ask because the factory 24212 won't work with the MecGar 17 round magazines, only the 15 round versions.

This is what I have used 100% successfully

Make sure to change those recoil springs guys. Since this one looks to be a very late 80s, or very early 90s example, I ordered a standard 15lb recoil spring, and was shocked that the old one was almost a full 1 1/2 inch shorter. At least I won't beat my frame to death....

Recoil springs are cheap. I bought a bag of the 39xx/69xx springs a few years ago. In fact, it's probably time to change out the one in my 3913TSW.

Anytime I buy a new to me 3rd Gen, it gets a new recoil spring and the magazines get new springs as well.

I picked one of these up as my first handgun about 10 years ago for $600. Was in pretty much like new condition/no discernible wear on it and came with 6 extra mags.

The standard trigger on this thing was totally ridiculous though in DA mode. Something like a 20+ pound draw from the factory so you need a strong finger just to even fire the thing. That's probably why there was no wear on the gun - it wasn't being used due to that awful factory trigger. Someone like my ma couldn't even pull the trigger on it back far enough to shoot it. I had to do a lot of work on it sanding and polishing the sear and put the lightest trigger springs I could get to make it manageable.

There's still a lot of play in the trigger on about the first half of the pull where it's dead space before you feel any contact happening internally in SA mode but now it is light years ahead of where it was from the factory and I can shoot it without hitting low and to the right all the time.

Aside from the factory trigger that I have no complaints. It has an internal magazine safety so it won't fire with the magazine removed but there are ways to delete that feature if you don't like it. I like the thumb safety. I've seen some people modify it that are right hand shooters and take the right side of the safety toggle off since it is ambidextrous in order to shave off a little weight and have one less thing that can possibly get caught on something. I tried it with the aftermarket rubberized Hogue grips and while it does feel better with it on it made it just a little bit too thick for my hands so I decided to stick with the stock plastic ones.

When I retired and moved to FL the first gun I bought here was a 6906.
Had it for a few years. then the NEW wave was Polymer, sold the 6906 bought the "craze"....Fast forward, after looking for a while I was able to find a descent 6906, but it was a bit beat up on the slide...had it polished
now it looks like a show piece and I treat it very carefully. Also after searching for a long time I found a mint CS 9....happy with both.
