The 4043 was my duty weapon for about 15 years recently the impact is not consistent to point of aim even at 7 yards , I let the dept firearms instructor try with the same results, he said send it back to Smith, any thoughts ? Whats the difference between the early 4043 and the later tactical model Thanks Doug

Is it just the point of impact or is it grouping poorly? If it is the point of impact it might be that the rear sight has moved. Checked the set screw. In fact check to see if the screw is even there.
If your groups are like shotgun patterns and if the rear sight is secure you could have wear issues and it might need a trip back to the factory.

A change in ammo would account for a change of impact. Have you changed ammo lately?

barrel crown
checked the barrel crown seems ok but the frame and slide are showning unusual wear with the frame showing more wear on the left side except, about 1 inch from the front, that the slide is not touching the frame uppermost rail edge and not touching the wider flat rail about 1/16 lower,the right side of the frame is showing all it's wear at the front up to 2 1/4 inch back from the front both upper and lower rail the next 1 1/2 inch of the frame is not showing any wear to match the left side.The slide has small wear below the front sight at the edge of the frame rail guide about 1 inch from the front, with none showing on the right side. I am sending it to Smith it should be a warranty issue I bought it new in 1997. Thanks to all Doug
