Location
Pittsburgh, PA
Approximately .875 mile from me as the crow flies, another "disturbed" person, apparently loaded for SHTF, shooting hundreds of rounds by someone who won't leave the house he's "squatted" in. So far, no one has been shot, reported. I'm not sure what he's shooting, but it's loud, as well as the return fire from law enforcement, from my location. I guess he's anti-gov't, etc., but he's in the house because he thinks since his relatives died he should get the house. (This info from the news reporters on KDKA television.) Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, FBI, and PA State Police and ATF are all there. I guess it started before 11:00 AM; it's 2:20 presently Eastern time. He actually shot down a couple drones. I just hope no LEOs get injured.
Anyone from here may know the area; it's a couple blocks from Children's Hospital in the Garfield neighborhood of PGH. Pray for the LEOs involved, plus all the neighbors.
I'm pretty sure this will be on Nat'l news later. It's almost 2:30 presently. Oh, he must have a gas mask because they're using gas.
To be continued...

Sounds like 1 deputy wounded. Wait him out. Then send in the robot.

I'm watching the news about this too...sounds like they're preparing to breach the house.

Please stay safe!

The preferred method is to wait him out but since he's throwing rounds out they have lost that option and have to neutralize him.
God Bless the boys in blue, tough job.

They've been shooting gas and what sounds like those flash bombs or grenades, whatever they're called. They're pretty loud from here. I think one of the initial sheriff's officers was getting into a safe spot and he hit his head and got a pretty good cut. I haven't heard anyone getting shot, but I hope not.
We had a nut job pretty close by that killed 3 LEOs 15 or so years back but they got him much quicker, could've been faster but the snipers weren't allowed to take him out. I'm not sure what the motive is now regarding taking him alive, but all the resources over there you'd think they could've taken him out by now. We'll see pretty soon.

Evictions can be bad news. I know two deputies and a state constable who were shot doing evictions, fortunately they all survived. Your average deadbeat isn't too bad, it's the goofs with the fruit loop legal theories they get off the internet that are a problem.

This morning's local online newspaper isn't saying yet how he died (it's one of two ways) or what rifle(s) he was using, but I found it interesting the police needed more ammo brought in but he was still shooting all day long. It sure was loud, even way over here. Only less than a direct mile, but it's sort of a valley up to where my street is.
I'm just glad no LEO injuries besides the initial head injury to one deputy.
This is reportedly his second eviction, from a different place last year, so I suppose he wasn't gonna go quietly this time.

Now the homeowners get to spend piles of money repairing all the windows and bullet holes and getting the gas stink out of the house. Insurance won't pay for acts of terror. A single sniper bullet would have saved everyone much time and money.

Agreed, if they had a shot. With a dude like that, he probably was not giving them one.

Noted in the one article that KDKA is a CNN affiliate. Not surprising. Way deep in the last century there was a nut with a .25 auto on the superstructure of one of the three downtown bridges (7th, 8th, 9th?-been decades). The star newscaster (Bill Burns) was on scene, behind cover and shouting hysterically every time the guy fired. The police were seen standing up in plain sight and laughing at him-and it showed in the live video. Someone climbed up the bridge and talked him down.

They were there to evict him. Can't you just wait for him to go out for a burger, then grab him?
Maybe Pittsburgh Public Safety decided they needed an ammo rotation. Seems like a large amount of ordinance to expend on someone that shot a couple of drones. Although, I'm sure there will be clamoring to classify drones as "officers", like they do with the K-9s.

That's almost as funny as the "offense" of fleeing. It's a criminal, what else do you expect it to do?

Over my 44 years of being a Landlord, we had hundreds of evictions! We never had one go this bad! I don't know the circumstances BUT, we could give a person a break if they made any effort at all to get the rent paid! In Columbus, if you went through all the steps, You are Out a minimum of two months rent, Plus Lawyer fees, Plus Court costs, PLUS fee for the bailiff, PLUS the actual costs of labor to set them out, Plus the Locksmith the get entry and change the locks! After they are out, then there are damages, and utilities! If the damages are minimal, you are looking at 5 or 6 months' worth of rent! We always gave them the chance to just go away!

No eviction is ever good for business! But sometimes there are people that are such a problem or menace to neighbors/property (a crack house is a good example) that it doesn't matter if they do pay the rent, you have to get rid of them!

I worked for a company around 2010 that did "Mentally ill housing" We had on guy that went berserk and totally destroyed an apartment in 6 or 7 days, to the tune of 10 to 12 thousand dollars damage! He had been institutionalized, because of his violent nature but the state wanted to save money ($35,000 a month to keep him in the nut house!) and set him free!! (and forced us by contract to take him!) My employers never got compensated!

Back to the shooter in Pittpa. Obviously there had to be some mental issue, as nobody would call this normal behavior! For this one person, the entire legal and mental health systems collapsed! And the landlord gets caught holding the bag! Thank God no one else was hurt!

Ivan

BTW from our expierance, Evictions are not a "Class" issue! We had the same percentage of evictions on "Executive Housing" (Nice homes upper class neighborhoods) as Middle class apartments, twins and houses, and actually a lower percentage in low income! (2 reasons, 1) they get lots of assistance 2) where are they going to go if they stiff the slumlords!)

This. Last place I lived was in a upper middle class gated community. Three doors down was a failed, middle-aged lawyer and his family who were foreclosed on and kicked out.

There was a write-up on the situation this morning in the Tribune Review's article. Basically a nut job; no mention of cancer, but that's about the only thing his "brain" did NOT have. "It's over, Johnny!"
