I am glad the OP was not injured in this incident. My only issue is that a Shield 40 "exploded" in hand almost 2 months ago, and we're just now hearing about it. I would think that this kind of catastrophic event would be something the S&W community and especially Shield 40 owners should know about ASAP. Anyway best of luck.
