It is a mystery to me why foreign primer manufacturers didn't jump into the US market long ago.
I recently bought 5k Ginex SP primers. They're from Bosnia. I haven't loaded any yet, but from what I've read they work just fine. I paid $400 for the case ($80/1,000).
I don't "need" primers right now, but I do like to keep pace with my consumption so that I maintain my end-of-days supply/stockpile. I remember not wanting to pay $25/1,000 because they used to be $20/1,000. And I remember not wanting to pay $30/1,000 because they used to be $25/1,000. And then I didn't want to pay $35/1,000 because they used to be $30/1,000. Well, you guys get the idea. For folks older than me, I'm sure you remember paying $15, or even $10/1,000….
Do I think primers will come down some more, maybe a little, but maybe not. As always, some places will charge more than others, but it'll remain much, much higher than pre 2020.
What we've recently gone through was very unusual shortages, with very, very inflated prices. Those extreme prices for guns, ammo, and components have come down, and I believe are back to the new "normal," or very close. But we also have very high inflation going on, and that's not going to change. Everything is going to continue to increase in price. Over time, ammo and components have NEVER gotten cheaper. We also have consolidation in manufacturers, and that always increases prices, as well.
Long story short, get used to the new normal, or stop shooting, but we'll never see $30/$35 for 1k primers again, or $17 for a pound of powder either….
