Amazon Prime - Opinions?

The final decision. The first Amazon Prime order two day delivery I made was a failure, but came in three days. I had already had a Amazon non-Prime delivery issue on 12/23. Today, I received a notice that the camera batteries I ordered were delivered to me at 3:24 PM today. Well... I was here at 3:24 and there was no delivery, my neighbors did not receive it as best I can tell, I went online to investigate. Amazon responded that I should wait 36 hours after they report a delivery and it does not appear before I proceed. I immediately canceled my Prime trial membership. I'll dispute the Cr. card charge if the camera batteries do no appear. It is a good idea, but not for me.

kw, that happened to me too, but it turned out to be a problem with sloppy fed ex, not amazon.

One of the few benefits of living in the congested part of Houston is the shopping opportunities. Amazon Prime is in the chase, but not worth a hundred bucks a year to me with my current circumstances. The things I've bought from Amazon were good deals, and I'll work out this delivery mistake. I just do not see a $100 a year value for Prime to me at this time. Multiple delivery issues do not work for me.

You may have already done this and I don't know your circumstances but this happened to me a couple of times. I have three doors that the UPS guys drop stuff off for me. When Amazon says the stuff is delivered I have to check all three doors to make sure they didn't deliver. I've been lucky in that all three times they delivered to the almost never used basement door.

in the middle of the city i can see how amazon may not be necessary. it is a godsend for those of us in the bush.
i'm 90 miles from a walmart or gunshop.
too far to drive.
plus, locally, people don't get premium cheese or even tomatoes.
i eat well only because of amazon.

We have prime for years and really enjoy it. To pay for the annual fee, we signed up for their "Amazon Store Card" (not to be confused with their bank type credit card) which can only be used on Amazon purchases. When you pay the monthly balance you receive an automatic 5% credit to your account - in effect this gives you a 5% discount on all purchases. Works great!

Love it!

As the title of my post suggests, I use Prime and love it. I don't recall if anyone has already mentioned, but there is an option now where you can pay a monthly fee, instead of an annual payment. Also, if you just want the video subscription, you can sign up for that at about $9 a month.

I am probably the most impatient person on the planet, and I love the two day delivery, with great tracking and communication. Also, when I have needed to return something, they send a label (via e-mail) and when UPS scans it in, they credit your account. All in all, great service.

In the years that I've been a Prime member, I've only had one issue that really ticked me off...I ordered an expensive (to me) safety razor. It arrived in a very thin, slightly padded envelope which was torn in one place. The product box inside the envelope was crushed, but fortunately the razor wasn't damaged. It should have been shipped in a box, like almost everything else I've ordered from them. The good thing is that Amazon asks for reviews on their packaging as well as (and separately from) the products they sell, and they got an earful (or eyeful) from me on that one!

As a follow up, I have cancelled my Prime Membership. The free trial membership is still in effect until the 30 days are up, but my credit card will not be charged for any Prime membership fees.

I contacted Amazon's customer service regarding the shipment that shows delivered as of Thursday and has yet to appear. It was a Lithium Ion camera battery sold by another company and fulfilled by Amazon. The rep said she could not offer a replacement, but would credit my credit card or e-mail me an Amazon gift card code for the purchase amount. I had her credit my credit card. I received an email confirmation of this.

One of the few benefits of living where I live is the magnitude of shopping venues very close to my home. The free video is not a big draw for me. The free audio... I use the free version of Pandora regularly. Will I order from Amazon in the future? Probably. Will I reconsider Prime if I were to move or become disabled. Absolutely.

I'm glad to see all the positive feedback on the service. I can see how Prime could easily be worth more than $99 per year for some people.

I pulled a boner a couple weeks ago.
Early Dec I was xmas shopping on Amazon for my wife. She has a Prime account but I didn't want her to know what she was getting so I did the 30 day free Prime thing. You know what's coming right? Yep, I forgot to cancel. So now both my wife and I have Prime for the next year.
Prime seems like a good deal for ONE person in a household to have.

Have you called them about cancelling and getting a pro-rated refund of the premium charged to your account? I'd be surprised if they wouldn't do that, especially considering the circumstances.

Another benefit is the long return exchange period they grant you. I ordered a 36" Plano case for my MP15 Christmas day. I just (literally 15 minutes ago) noticed one of the hinges was messed up. Pulled up my app, return period good through 1/31/17, started a return/exchange they are sending me a new one, will be here Monday and I have till Feb 27 to send the defective one back, no charge, pre paid shipping. Boom, done in less than 2 minutes all from my cell phone without having to call anyone. I can either print my label, have UPS pick it up from my house, or bring it to the UPS Store at my leisure and they will print the label there for me. I have to be honest I don't know how many of these benefits I mentioned are only Prime related or just standard Amazon practice but they are by far my favorite online retailer.

No, it's not their fault, I don't expect them to refund. I knew what I was signing up for. That's how they get a lot of their business, offer a free trial and a certain percent forget to opt out.

Because of the overwhelming positive feedback on Prime, I'll post this suggestion for folks that are considering a free trial membership. Go ahead an accept the trial membership when you order. In your Amazon account settings you will find Prime is set to renew as default. After placing or receiving your order go to your account settings and either ask for an email reminder three days before your credit card is charged, or do as I have now done and set it not to renew. You can still use Prime until the next payment is due, but the default is now not to renew. If you want to use a Prime benefit and your membership is expired you can decide if you want to spend the fee on it then. There is a monthly version available for something like $12.

I'd still call them and ask. I've found them to be very customer focused, so even though it's not their fault, they may be willing to let you cancel and refund the unused portion, especially since you have another Prime account. The worst they can say is no.

I agree with GKC. Offer to pay the monthly fee instead of 1/12 the annual fee for the addition months over the 30 day free trial. That is fair for everybody.

Good example today, noticed a headlight out on my truck, Advance Auto on-line order with a 20% coupon $11.99 + tax for 1 OEM bulb and I have to go pick it up. Amazon Prime $12.88 for 2 better bulbs to be delivered Tuesday.

You can still cancel any time and they pro rate your refund based on how long you had it. At least that's what I did the first time I tried Prime. I got to a period where I was not ordering as much or using the other features. So I cancelled and received a partial refund of the $99 based off how long it was active for. Note I'm a member again and use everything they have to offer.

We also use the Amazon Subscribe & Save feature on some things.

Subscribing to a product purchase you can get an even lower price. For example... we get a kitchen sink water filter delivered every couple months. Saves $2 off the Amazon Prime price which at the time I couldn't find the filter at a lower price elsewhere. When it arrives every couple months that's the wife's reminder to holler at me to change the filter.

Before we went to subscription never remembered when to change the filter. Actually, that might have saved more money cuz I'm pretty sure there were times when we went several months without changing the filter. :D
