Ammo for your models 36 or 60 38 special

In my model 36 (1974) I carry Rem. 158 grain SWCHP+P. Also have some of the same type load by Win. and Fed. Usually use my reloads with 148 grain HBWC and 2.7 grains Bullseye on the range followed by a few of the carry loads.

I have read where people say you shouldn't use +P ammo for their 38's its good too see people like myself saying if its a SMITH shoot whatever you damn well fit in it. God I love this COUNTRY

Love shooting J frames! For range use, it's 148 gr LHBWC over Bullseye.

Carry load is Federal 129 gr Hydra Shoks PD.

I like the the way that regular Hornaday CD 110 grain JHP's shoot, in my M60 and M637. I like to shoot at the range, and shoot everything from 125 grain +P's, to 158 grain SWC's. The +P's are fine for SD carry, but seem hot for a lot of range shooting. The 148 gr. WC's and 158 gr. SWC's are pleasant to shoot, but they shoot much higher than my carry loads. The 110 grain Hornaday's, seem like the best compromise.

I've got a Model60 (circa 1975) when I shot a cylinder of Winchester 125gr. +P I had to bang on the cylinder with the heel of my hand to get it to release. Any std. 38 ammo doesn't cause this problem. Bought the gun new in '75 and it's seen maybe 200 rnds.
