Wow! I watched a "Great Performances" hour on PBS tonight, Annie Lennox, looking and sounding wonderful. Her pitch wasn't dead perfect; but I have a picky ear, and Lennox is sixty. It was still great despite sound mixing that was too heavy on the instrumental accompaniment.
She did a devastating rendition of "Strange Fruit" that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck, a fine "I Cover The Waterfront", and a fantastic "Summertime". The songs were from her recent album "Nostalgia", much of which was a selection of her childhood favorites.
All in all it was an hour very well spent. She is a hell of a show woman.
EDITED TO ADD: She also did a wonderful "Mood Indigo"--not an easy song to sing well.
