I'll be in San Jose on Monday and Tuesday. I'll talk to some of my friends to get some information. Right now there is nothing being said if it is a lone nut case or if it is gang violence. Gilroy, Salinas, and Watsonville is a triangle of violent gang activity. A couple of detectives I knew in Salinas were jokingly talking about changing the city's name to Dodge City.

I guess what's so shocking about news like this, is that it's not shocking to hear about now days.
A six year old child was one of the fatalities.
Prayers for the families.
The assailant(s) had to cut thru a security fence and cross a creek to get to their targets.
Police responded in time and took out the assailant
All this has become routine now, and that's the tragedy.

Agreed, our "social structure " is broken and needs repair if not an overhaul. However, the Government has a role to play in fixing it.

Did this occur in a "guns banned"/gun free zone? I have noticed that a common theme in these mass murder shootings sprees is a lack of return fire.

That was my first thought when they said that he had to cut through a security fence to gain access. Gun free zone = victim rich environment.
The story said "pocket knives and weapons of any kind are prohibited at the park".

A report I read had in it someone actually talked to him and asked him why he was shooting and his answer was ' because I am angry'

At a news briefing Monday, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee identified the shooter as 19-year-old Santino William Legan, who was killed by police, bringing the death toll to four. More than a dozen people were injured.
Kinda makes me wonder how angry a 19 year could could be. Maybe he lost high score on a video game or something like that.
Large majority of our countries youth need to grow the hell up.

I believe the young man had lived in Nevada for some time with his family, so he was a resident. It named the town, and the home there was searched.
It was the singer of the band that was onstage at the time. Report I read said perp appeared from the side of the stage and the singer asked him why he was doing this and he responded he "was really angry."

Kudos to the three officers that engaged him within a minute or two of the shootings. The chief said that even though they were outgunned they took him out with their handguns during the exchange of gunfire. He said he officers were fired upon as soon as the shooter saw them and they returned fire and killed him. There is no telling how many lives they saved.

Same cartridge- 7.62x39mm. Police Chief probably lumped the SKS and AK together to simplify it for the reporters.
We need to separate the ability to do evil, from the availability of guns. Evil will find a way, whether guns are available or not. The gun culture needs to fashion a push-back against this mindset.

I used to go to the Gilroy Garlic festival when we lived in the bay area. The loss of life is so sad but it is especially tragic when two of the victims were children. Really heartbreaking!
The article I read said it was a WASR-10 semi-auto purchased at Big Mikes in Fallon, NV. Not sure how he lawfully purchased it in another state but pretty sure it was not legal to bring into CA.

I saw the statement - the Chief said 'SKS' first, then added 'AK-47-type' type. Seemed clear to me that he knew most folks wouldn't know what an SKS might be, but would know AK-47. I see no big deal, let alone lying.
Not sure how a WASR-10 is NOT an AK--47 style rifle.

Reports now state that the assailant was a NV resident when he purchased the rifle at Big Mikes. So it looks like it was a legitimate purchase. It was illegal to bring it into CA, however.

Didn't seem to stop the shooter.
As our society continues to collapse and we fall further and further from traditional family values, look to this sort of thing to become a regular occurrence.
