Anxiously await the S&W single stack 9mm

re: Kimber Solo

That jibes with what I've been hearing. I plan on sticking with the 4014, and adding a CS40 or CS9 in the near future.

Plus possibly getting an LC9 for those situations that might be wetter/muddier/rougher- such as in my canoes/kayaks.

I searched the stores around here for a pocket gun... finally had the ruger lc9 follow me home. very satisfied. I really wanted to go for the kahr but couldn't get passed the rough action & break in. the several I handled had poor actions. Hard to justify ammo cost just to make a new gun work. (I know, it’s just me??) The ruger worked right out of the box. (disclaimer; I cleaned the goo first!!). The little rohrbaugh was way too rough, and with that cost?? It was a great size and hammer fired like the ruger, and at three times the cost. I even looked for a 3953 or a cs9 for quite a while, hard to find and pricy... so... the ruger will do till something better comes along. I found my answer and hope for a great solution for your quest

I think I'm coming around to the Ruger LC9. Although the trigger pull is certainly long it's much lighter than my S&W 442. And for $350 at my local shop it was pretty hard not to walk out of there with one.

Has anyone had any trigger time with the Taurus 790 slim?

You can pocket carry just about any handgun...kind of.

I've got a CS9, 3953 and 3913. They are all EXCELLENT single-stack nines. The CS9 is still a fun gun at the range, even with it's light weight and small size. I don't consider any of them "pocket guns". I have carried all three at least a few times in my right-front pocket, grips at least partially sticking out with an untucked shirt draped over them for a short trip to the store or what have you, but that doesn't make them "pocket guns" as far as I'm concerned - I could have carried a full-size duty pistol the same way.. I have carried the CS9 a little longer than that in cargo shorts pocket. It stays completely covered in the larger pocket but again, not a true "pocket gun".
For OWB or IWB carry I think the size and weight differences between these three and many other "compacts" - even double-stack guns - are negligible. IMO the only true "pocket nines" are the size of the Kel-Tec, Kahr, LC9 and the like. But even these three are a little large for all-day pocket carry as far as I'm concerned.

My wife wanted something lighter to carry than her G19. So I let her try my Kahr PM9. I usually just carry this gun when I'm walking the dogs, but DAYME this gun is a great shooter. I'm guessing that I've lost this gun now.

I do want a 3913 some day.

Don't forget the HK P7M8!

A guy at my local indoor range was trying to shoot his Kimber Solo last weekend. I say try because he would get off one or two rounds between failures to feed.

He told me he had "..just gotten it back from its second trip back to Kimber..". Evidently Kimber had not fixed it. No matter, he told me, and showed me, that it was going back again because the black finish was flaking off the frame.

Another expensive single shot Kimber is what I've seen. I already learned my lesson with Kimbers though. :) Regards 18DAI.

I was at a show recently talking to a guy selling his reloads, and going over what components he used, etc. He asked me type of gun I had. Told him S&W. He said "Good." According to him the only problems or complaints about his ammo was from people who had Kimbers. Apparently (and this is third hand hearsay, so multiple grains of salt may be necessary) the fine-tuning they do makes them more finicky about ammo, especially the ultra-compact versions; short slide, heavy recoil spring, etc. For the price they charge, (and I admit that hand-work isn't cheap) you'd think it would be more reliable. But, I haven't seen a Kimber owner's manual, so I don't know if it has anything to say about ammo choice. I sure haven't seen very many nice things said about Kimbers here.

I got to put in a plug for my Kahr CM9. Although there is the break in period, it now gobbles up any ammo I feed it. I only had a few slide lock-back failures in the first 50 or so. The little guns are built with tight factory tolerances. You don't want a Glock-like factory-loose micro 9mm or you will have problems down the road. I have found the main thing with Kahrs is that you have to the mag to seat the ammo against the back of the slide for it to feed perfectly. I put a CT laser and Trijicon front night sight on mine, and it rides well in the pocket with a Blackhawk #4 pocket holster.

Well just waiting to see if S&W jumps in to this pocket carry frenzy any further then with the bodyguard
a polymer framed CS would prove interesting?
(Injection molding at its finest)
