Anyone Else Get Painful Cramps In Legs?

I'm 74 and I have been taking one of these every morning for 4 years. No more leg cramps or Charley Horses.
It is the quinine that makes this stuff work.

Used to really like grapefruit, and had fresh sent up from Florida. Till the doc put me on Atorvastatin. Started getting horrific leg cramps in middle of night. Now the Atorvastatin bottles come with a warning not to eat grapefruit, or drink grapefruit juice.

Theraworx. 14 years of chemo induced neuropathy and the associated pain causes lower leg cramps. Two minutes after application the cramps are gone, thank God. I keep it on my nightstand.

As a couple of others have said, if you’re on a statin drug,
and having cramps, you should be taking CO-Q10
supplement. It's OTC. It works.

I used to endure that for about a year, during which I'd be awakened by a leg cramp, and I'd leap out of bed instantly and stretch it out (which worked well for foot, calf and hamstring) or in the case of adductor cramp, the deep muscle on the inside of the thigh, which I couldn't stretch, walk vigorously around the house. I usually managed to calm it down before it became intolerable, but if I were not quick enough, especially the adductor cramp, I'd end up screaming for my wife to help me rub it out and nearly pass out from the pain.

I finally went to my doc. Doc took me off atorvastatin, put me on glipizide, and I've also made a conscious effort to drink 15-16 8oz glasses of water (~1 gallon) per day.
No more cramps since, not even a glimmer of one.

Man, you guys are great for chiming in. I appreciate it. I did the statin route awhile back and it made my legs feel like they were made of rubber even to where I could barely walk. As soon as I quit the statins, it went away.

I have to admit I have mild COPD and have been taking 10MG of Prednisone daily and it has been a Godsend. My breathing is normal and the Prednisone gives me much energy. I’m learning though that the Prednisone might be the source of these excruciating leg cramps.

Anyone take Prednisone and have cramps while taking it?

Again, thanks so much for all the suggestions and I will try them all if I have to to stop these hellish cramps. The last 3-4 cramps were so bad if it wasn’t for my wife messaging my leg each time, like one gent said, I too thought I might pass out. I will be very disappointed if these cramps are the result of taking the Prednisone as like I said, it’s been a miracle with my breathing and giving me energy to live normally.

I switched statins to Simvastatin and that along with making sure I was hydrated stopped the night leg cramps. I have since stopped statins because it was affecting my balance and ability to walk. I know 3 other 70+ year old males who also quit statins and improved their ability to walk.
I have peripheral neuropathy due to industrial strength chemo with a transplant.
Good luck.

A good preventative/cure

Leg cramps
I used to get leg cramps, from riding motorcycles, and doing construction work, in cold weather. Some of them, so severe that they actually broke blood vessels.

A knowledgeable friend gave me his remedy; Two or three swigs of any brand of Tonic Water. It prevents, and stops, my leg cramps almost instantly. Quinine is credited, as the wonder drug of this inexpensive prevention/remedy.

My doctor assured me that it was harmless in small doses, but if you are concerned, consult your doctor.

Try it, I believe you’ll be amazed, and pleased.

My right leg is amputated below the knee. I have phantom pains so bad that my general Dr. sent me to a pain management Dr. He is a life saver!

Magnesium with vitamin D work pretty well to stop the night cramps. But, I found out that if you take too much magnesium that can also cause cramps.

Dill pickles and dill pickle juice work well too. I usually snack on pickles and drink a couple of ounces of juice before bedtime if I have had an extra active day.

I almost always point the finger at not drinking enough water. Even if you think you are drinking enough a lot of the times you probably aren't. In the summer when the temps are up I usually drink about 4 liters a day, and I'm not a big guy.
