Okay, Gary, I'm speaking now from firsthand experience. Oh...it wasn't my teeth that were pulled. But one of my mules, Cookie, had a bad winter this year and dropped a lot of weight. I took her into the vet just this past Tuesday. He checked her mouth and, sure enough, she had a couple bad teeth. Not only that, but she also had some sharp ridges on her other teeth that were keeping her from grinding up her food entirely, thus not getting the nutrients she needed.
He first wrenched her mouth open with this huge clamp, took a pair of long-handled pliers and extracted two teeth, then took an electric grinder with a 12-inch bit on the end and smoothed the sharp ridges. I don't know what he gave her as a sedative, but it was pretty obvious she wasn't feeling any pain for a couple days. I can give you his number if you want.
Oh, I need to tell you that there may be side effects. According to the vet, Cookie should be putting on an extra 100 pounds in the next month or two. Don't know how your weight is, but...hey, it might be worth thinking about.

Went to Dentist for a filling and Dr said good you have had your wisdom teeth pulled. At that time I had never had a tooth pulled. Never had any I guess. As far as meds go I fell and thought I may have broken some ribs. Went to ER and turned out they were only cracked. ER Dr gave me a scrip for pain meds. Found out scrip was for extra strength Tylenol. After two days of pain went to GP. When found out what ER DR gave me he just shook his head and gave some good stuff. Getting good pain killers when you really need them is hard to do these days. I have taken opioids several time and never had a problem with them. Took them until pain was gone and that was it. Had a half bottle of oxycontin sit on shelf for two years still I took them in to the drug disposal been at my drug store.
Whether or not you think you need them and only sissies need pain meds, you should take every opportunity and hoard them like squirrels collecting nuts for the winter.
GREAT idea, never thought about that! The vicodin #5/325 don't do SQUAT for me. Need at least the 7.5 or better the 10/325. (had the 10/325 for the extraction and implant done a year ago) Gobbled three of them over 2 days and pitched the rest. Important thing is to start taking them before the pain kicks in. Didn't know that still made tylenol 3 and 4Don't do a Friday for the reason by johngalt. You are going to ruin a long weekend.
Forget oxy. Most dentists will give you Tylenol 3 with codeine. You want Tylenol 4 with twice the codeine.
A picture( second day, ) at full swelling is required for follow up sympathy.![]()
