Anyone else laid off right now?

I'm a construction inspector in Ohio, work has been up and down. Some good weeks, some bad. In 2006 my company has 30 inspectors, now we have 11. Being a 20 year man is all that has saved me from the unemployment line. I've watch guy's I've worked with for 15 years walk out the door knowing there not coming back, good friends all. People at work are worried about who will be next. My company had it's worst winter, followed by it's worst spring and summer. If things don't get better soon we may not make it through the winter.
Oh well, at least it will be College football season.

Been working since I was ten. Just finishing my 59th year on the big blue marble next month.

June 2008 I was dismissed from a ten year sales position, I was making too much and they could hire rookies for less.

October 2008 I secured a great new sales/consulting job. February 2009 our budget was sliced 1/2 Mil. Last hired, first laid-off.

Anyhow, misery loves company.

Peter, I'm heading to Cabela's tomorrow to cash in a gift card from last Christmas.

Good luck with the new job and fossil hunting @ Mauch Chunk!

I worked for Manufactuer in fortune 50 who convinced me to come manage Ohio and Kentucky for them. On 1st April I was downsized after having a very good year in 2008 and being one of only 5 who earned a raise in 68 in the position. Told, I was picked because I was the neswest hired. Had 2 interviews the last few days--- was told I would not be hired because I'm 'overqualified'. Can't eat qualifications!

I've been working off and on all year (about 500 hours ,year to date)with low expences and unemployment on the weeks I don't work it's not to bad.Gives me time to work in the woods and I've been able to find some other stuff to do.With my luck work will pick up right when bow hunting season opens.
