Anyone else laid off right now?

I have job hunted, Sent out resume's, Went to interviews and even had a few job offers in the past few months. It appears that apon confirmation today or later this week I will be starting with a guy who wants his AC/Heat business to grow, I should be starting with him the first week of September,,, BECAUSE as much as it sounds bad, I am 43, I have worked part time since 14 and full time since 18 and I feel as though I may not get a break again till I retire,,, I have been wise with $s and with unemployment and me banning myself from gun shops I havent seen any loss of savings over the past 4 months....
Today I am already packed up to go to the range,,, .22 rifles, and a few Smith revolvers, Pre 17, Pre 15 and a K38,,,
Tomorrow I will be going out with my girlfriend to go Fossil hunting in Jim Thorpe area.
I have been making the most of the lay off and I hope in my heart that some of you that have been laid off are doing OK and have something lined up!
It took months to get something good for me, I even did the shotgun Karma to help out.
You guys are great here,,, It always gives me a good chuckle when I need it and to see your support when some have troubles warms the heart~
Well, I am off to shoot my new/used/traded for Anschutz .22 on the 50 yard to see how it is...

I have been off since November 2006. The type of work I did for the prior twenty years(factory assembler) pretty much doesn't exist anymore around here. Fortunately I saved up some money and unemployment comp has kept me going. One good thing is that I've had lots of time to go to the range and I am now almost an average shooter. Good luck with your new job and let's hope things loosen up soon.

Since February. Our biggest customer lost most of their orders, and consequently all of ours for them.

We hope to get into importing or making bullets and other firearms related items.

I have been out of work for 12 1/2 months. After working 16 years at the company with many months without a day off. This is HARD.

Have sent out alot resumes around the county. A couple interviews and a few calls.

This past July 13th after 13+ years with a $4.5B Fortune 500 employer, their corporate office some 1,000 miles away decided that my job had to eliminated. Little if any warning, my manager said he had something he wanted to talk to me about, I was lead to the conference room where HR was waiting. Well you know the rest of the story. Just sent the first batch of resumes out this week, former co-workers have been very supportive of my search providing contacts and intriductions to decision makers. With only five years to go till retirement it was a fine time for the train to stop short of the station. I'm fortunate to be in a position to be able to take my time and find the job I really would like to have at his point in my career. Good luck to all who are searching.

My last day of work was Dec. 21, 2007. I worked for the company for 27 years. It was sold in May 2007 and the new owners assured us all our jobs were secure. As of today 200 of the 207 employees were let go. All that is left is a small sales staff. The manufacturing is now done in Mexico. On the plus side I turned 65 last March (as if being 65 is a plus). As soon as my unemployment ran out I up and decided to retire-I really didn't have much choice but now I'm loving it. Good luck to all of you younger guys thoughts and prayers are with you all

Yup, I'm unemployed right now too. Been off since May 15. I have a few things as good job prospects, but at 57 being layed off sucks!

My last day was January 7th of this year. Not much going on in Architecture or construction right now. I've started looking outside of Architecture as well. Thankfully the wife has a great job and we're able to get through this.

As for all the rest of you that are laid off, you could all get together and start an ammo factory. I'd bet there is some money to be made there! I'll even do transportation for you, as things have been a little slow in my business, too.

Been out of work since Hurricane IKE. Lost two vehicles and 30,000 $ of automotive tools. I have been slowly replacing the damaged tools and have enough to work with, But in this economy, Nobody is hiring skilled techs. The ones i have talked to are hiring young kids just out of school or low skilled employees to keep the payroll down. I have a SNAP ON training seminar tonight. And after that I'm going up to dallas for a week or two to visit my neices and some friends. I had not planned on moving, but if i can find something up there i may have to.

Laid off Feb 27 this year. Laid brick for 30+ years until my back and knees gave out, then got a job across the country running a ready-mix plant. After 2 1/2 years of working there, the concrete business went the way of the construction business. My plant was closed and my job went with it. I'm 52 now and going to school to learn a new trade, there just aren't any jobs for blue collar guys anymore.

Sir, I got laid off at the end of June. Doing a bit of contract work right now--the money's good for the moment, but there's no telling how long it'll last. We shall see.

It'll get REALLY interesting if Obama manages to destroy the dollar, the Chinese call in their loans, and the unemployment and welfare goes away.

It'll make 1919 in Berlin look like a parade at Disneyland.

The company I worked for closed in May of this year. I'm 67, so I can retire.....didn't want to but no choise.

I worked in the screw machine industry....our jobs have gone to China. The younger guys are really in a bind. No jobs to be had.

I've been in boat repair for over 30 years. It is not the greatest pay but in all of those years, I've never been without work. There has always been a shortage of men with work ethic in our industry. (not boat building but in repair)
If a guy has a solid work ethic, and is half handy with his hands there is probably a job waiting for him.
The industry is literally begging for workers.
And, if you can afford it or have a VA education plan you can access, there are a number of accredited schools you can attend with a job guarantee at the end of the course.

Also if you are around any large body of water, check out the "boatyards" in your area.

2010' a crap shoot? I'd settle for 20 hours per week for 10' and could survive if necessary.
