I'm pretty sure there's a wide range of serials that needed repair. Mine's "DTMXXX" and was sent back for an extractor.

Now, once I were to send it back for an extractor issue, what are the chances they would be able to put the flash suppressor on? I would pay them to do so.

BTW: I'm really enjoying this site.

bought my DTM3xxx right before Christmas, so far I have only put about 600 rounds through it and have not had A single issue with it. Works fine.

the guns that have had "the fix" are the ones that people have sent back

as for the flash suppressor, some have asked and smith said no

uhh..... The one that everyone else is talking about.... Ejector.. The only other "fix" that i've read up on so far is the magazine..
I've already pretty much answered my own question from reading through. Hell, even the newer ones with the flash suppressor are have ejector problems. Wish I had known about this problem from the beginning.

If you are having problems with FTE's you can fix it in under a minute by adjusting the ejector. IMO, there is no magical "fix", it's just a matter of the ejector being adjusted to spec. Not really that big of a deal. You can adjust it yourself or you can send it in to S&W for them to deal with.

Ask smith cs if they'll put a flash on and please post as to what they say. I wouldn't put too much faith in serial #'s. Just send it in and have it brought up to spec. ;)

I bought a used unfired one yesterday built in September of 09. Should I go ahead and send it to smith or wait and see if anything happens?

A used unfired one? ;)

Buy some Fed Val Pack 375 / 550 or CCI Stinger / Mini-Mag ..... and let er rip. I have beat mine like a rented mule and it just keeps on keepin on. Another 500ds today... 12.5k

ps. Sending it back to S&W does not guarantee it won't blow up. Many here on this forum have been returned to S&W more than once.

That's what I had planned. If it doesn't blow with stingers or mini mags it should be ok. Older man had bought it never shot it, still in the box with the price tag and wrapper. Got it for my boys to fight over, just don't want it to blow up on them.

my 15-22 is on it's 2nd trip to s&w (serial-dtexxxx) using fed. bulk pack, it's getting old! I feal like i spent a lot of money for a botle roket holder.

The 15-22 has to be among the worst performing modern day .22lr rifles introduced in a long time.

I feel your pain. I sent mine to Smith because of fte and ftf ( mostly ftf ) I got it back. First time out shot about 350 rds through it w/ only one ftf with fed bulk and cci standard. I was happy. Since then I get a mag snag or 2 in every mag. Smith's cs has been helpful but, REALLY starting to question this whole thing. Something tells me that it's 95% magazine issue. I grew up shooting a marlin 39a which put in my head that .22 rifles will never malfunction. I realize this is a totally different animal but, I can't live w/ a mag snag in every mag or 50 rds. I'm sending my rifle and my mags back in again in hopes it'll solve this. If It doesn't work this time, I'm gonna ask for my money back or a store credit. Which would suck because I really like this rifle but I'm just a little tired of trying to figure out what's wrong with it and obsessing over how to fix it. If it doesn't work out maybe I can pick up the m+p pistol I want in .45.

i have the 45. and it is a good gun , no problems - ran over 800 rounds threw it and works like it should ha..... thought the M&P name was reliable. i wonder what the m&p 15's are like?
