Anyone like Limburger cheese

Reminiscing

I was reminiscing today, and remembered this true story. Some of my cohorts, and I, in the 1940 area, used to devil an old gruff, rough, and tumble bartender, in the saloon of a historical Hotel, in our home town. That hotel served the passengers of a stage coach line, originally a corduroy road, that runs from Cleveland Oh, to Cincinnati OH, through our home town, where that old historical, stage coach hotel is located. That bartender hated, Limburger cheese , and handling it with a passion. To devil him, we all, almost nightly, ordered 'Limburger on rye' sandwiches, and thereby, in the process, learned to love Limburger cheese.

A lot of people think that cheese is a bit too much on aroma but it is a great cheese.

Mild, creamy, hard, sharp, spreadable, they all have their place
and don't forget "Squeaky cheese" nuggets right out of the cheese makers bin.

I love to go to the German deli in town to fill up on meat and cheese that they carry.

It may cost a little more but it is fresh and they carry more brands than the local stores, if you are in to high quality stuff.

Gotta love Ahia. Only place in my experience where a guy could order Limburger on rye, or a pickled tongue sandwich.

The only good thing to do with that cheese is to throw it on the engine manifold of someone you don't like! :D

As for eating it? Forget that!
My basic 3 rules of eating something
If it don't look good / don't eat it
If it don't smell good / don't eat it
If it don't taste good / don't eat it........:D

Remember one time I was at a special fire department meeting. After the meeting the host company served a lunch at their bar. The lunch that night was Limburger cheese and onion sandwiches along with some other wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch treats?
Needless to say I got caught sitting in between to gentleman partaking of the sandwiches, needless to say I had to relocate as they were talking to one another!:D

For years, my doctors have been using the apposite reason, to give me a don't eat list. Their advice to me has been, 'If it looks, smells, or tastes good, elementally spit it out.

I like to snack on Limburger cheese but SWMBO forbids it from our fridge due to its aroma. Thing is I can't find it in my local grocery or WM anymore. I guess not much demand for it. Mainly old guys(like me) Anybody like it? Have trouble finding it?

My rottweiler loved it and when she ate it I stayed away from her bad, really bad breadth.

We lived in Paris for a few years and every Saturday there was a large street market a few blocks from our apartment. There were several cheese mongers and we would always stock up. We were able to get varieties that weren't available in the stores, and some of them gave Limburger a run for its money. There are things about that time I don't miss, but I do miss the cheese . . . oh, and the bread . . . and the cheap Bordeaux. I could go on, but you get my drift.

In the late 30's, as a hobby, my great grandfather studied the medicinal and nutritional values of plants and would take my mom and her sister on walks in the countryside and teach them. He always carried a haversack with brown bread, whole onions, aromatic hard cheese and cups for spring water.

Mom says a good, strong whiff of pungent cheese takes her back to a happy childhood before the war intervened.

Blessed are the cheese makers.

IIRC, Limburger is made using the same bacteria type that causes human foot odor.

I quite like the stuff. They say it goes good with onions on bread. I need to try that.

My FIL and I liked it but the MIL made him keep it in the shed. I like Kippers as well and my wife thinks I am out pf my mind.
