ANYONE USING AUSTRALIAN "H-TEK" COATED BULLETS?

My initial results with Hi-Tek have been good in pistols, bad in the one rifle. The rifle test was with a gas checked boolit cast out of Lyman #2, and sized .002" over groove diameter. MV was right at 1600fps for an 850gr boolit over 70gr of Trailboss. The gold coating passed both tests with multiple boolits, but bore leading was bad enough I stopped after five shots. Pulled test rounds showed no coating damage. FWIW, rifle in question is an EDM Windrunner in 50BMG. Also going to play with powder coated boolits in my rifles later.
The Hi-Tek is easier to use than PC, but rifle performance seems to be spotty and perhaps gun dependent.

bbqncigars,

The HI-TEK was originally DEVELOPED FOR HANDGUNS in Australia.

Your weapon IS NOT EVEN ALLOWED IN Australia (too big of a caliber), they would

confiscate it and put you in prison.

It worked in YOUR PISTOLS, so it worked.

50 Cal, give me a break.

I am still reticent to try my own hand at coating in Hi-Tek as the mixing and baking seems so sensitive compared to PC or epoxy. But I did want to finally try them and ordered a box full from SNS.

These are .38's with the 125gr bullets. They have been just as accurate as anything else I've shot and the coating has meant less smoke, no leading, and all the other bonus features of coated bullets. I may buy them again when I just don't have time to cast up a bulk of my own but I still feel like PC and epoxy are easier. Guess I can't really say that as I haven't tried to make my own Hi-tek but I just read about so many failures with it while PC and epoxy are just so easy. I don't need a fancy oven, I don't even bother to preheat, just dump, shake, bake, recoat, repeat, done. Heck, even mixing lacquer thinner with the HF matte black sounds easier than the Hi-Tek. But those Hi-Tek finishes sure do look good.

Maximunbob54,

Many of the failures with HI-TEK were SELF INDUCED.
New HI-TEK will be headed to the USA in DRY FORMULA.
Safer Shipping, Color and Catalyst are already mixed together,
YOU ADD "X" AMOUNT OF ACETONE, TUMBLE COAT/BAKE.

Much more is now being understood about the process
plus THE MAN in Australia is making even better products and catalysts.

Many self-coaters have a business or competitively shoot
many many THOUSAND of rounds yearly.

The bullets are relatively inexpensive for handguns and what they do
(for the average shooter/reloader).

Many ACTION SPORTS competitors LOVE the Low to No SMOKE deal.

Maximumbob54,

Lookin' Good, you should see the LIPSTICK RED (I think Donnie at Bayou Bullets calls it BRICK RED) has for sale for self-coaters. He doesn't do finished projectiles with this color as of yet.

He has added RED/COPPER (good for higher velocities) and Gold finished projectiles to his LONG STANDING GREEN product. (called GATOR SNOT by many competitors).

I'm on a waiting list for the dry powder product. There is a thread on CastBoolits about it. That has the best chance of getting me to be a Hi-Tek user. I'm still ill about the seemingly sensitive nature of the baking. Epoxy and PC do NOT have that issue at all unless you are just way off.

Did someone say lipstick red???

HF gloss red...

I have the powder now in stock. I have the red copper, black, black 1035, zombie green, and brown copper. 3.5 oz will coat about 16,000 bullets, and the 7.0 oz will coat twice as much! Lol price is $20.00 and $30.00 plus shipping.

You can find it on my web site gatewaybullets.com

go big or go home applies. :D
Would seem that the limits are somewhere between 454 casul and 50bmg

Gateway Bullets,

I was in the process of ordering some powders, BUT CANCELLED THEM.

Your new site is asking for PERSONAL INFO I don't intend to supply.

Didn't you state on another site that you had some web site issues

or that it had been hacked?

Just Askin'?

P.S.

Shipping is a $15 Postal Box even for a 3 1/2 ounce ($20) Powder Size?

The site I had before wasn't hacked. The server my site was on had been hacked..

The only additional info the web site is asking for is your date of birth. This was done to assure you were 18 or 21 to order products. If you notice on the site, I will have firearms for sale (as soon as I get the time to add them).

I emailed my web person about a coupon code for reduced shipping.

If you want some before then, you can either email me at [email protected], pm me, or call the shop (636-629-5555)

Gateway Bullets,

I've been using HI-TEK projectiles for months now.

I'll do that, not that I need anymore presently, I have Brick Red,
Gold, Dark Green and Gold 1035 on hand in the LIQUID FORM OF
MIX UP YOUR OWN RATIOS at this time.

I need to get casting more projectiles.

I'm going to try some ZOMBIE GREEN, RED COPPER and BLACK 1035 in the DRY MIX from you.

The BLACK should look really good in NICKEL CASES!:D

THE DRY MIX HAS COLOR AND CATALYST ALREADY MIXED, AND YOU JUST ADD YOUR OWN ACETONE then bake.

***** DO NOT USE YOUR KITCHEN OVEN*****

Get a counter top CONVECTION OVEN from WALLY WORLD to use for projectile coating/baking.

You could also just purchase the finished COATED bullets to LOAD YOU OWN AMMO WITH.

I was shooting some 9 MM RED COPPER 147 grain RNFP .356 already finished projectiles from
Donnie at Bayou Bullets this morning. This is just GOOD STUFF.

The folks at my gun club are just amazed. I have projectiles, both commercial
and self coated/baked with and without conventional lube grooves.

Lube grooves don't matter, the bullet coating IS THE LUBE.

The SELF-COATERS also seem to finding out that TEMP/BAKE TIMES are not as critical as we once thought.

HOT enough to SET OFF THE CATALYST and long enough for it TO BAKE AND CURE.

Longer bake times seem to DARKEN the finished color but NOT RUIN IT,

as had been previously thought.

The testing goes on now as USA shooters are experimenting with rifle projectiles and velocities.

Personally, I only shoot handguns.:)
