Common flu has a death rate of about .1%, last I checked.According to today's Wall Street Journal the US Death Rate from Corvid19 is about 6%. Originally they said the Death Rate would be about 3% as opposed to the Common Flu which is around 1%...
The 6% you're seeing is the number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 out of the number of confirmed (tested) COVID-19 cases.
The actual death rate of COVID-19 is unknown, because the true percentage of the population infected is unknown.
The percentage of deaths correctly attributable to COVID-19 won't be known until there's true representative sampling of tested, confirmed cases throughout the population; when that happens we'll likely see a number lower than 6%, and greater than flu's .1%, based on the best current extrapolated data, which currently estimates it to land around 1%, or 10 times deadlier than ordinary flu.
