Are there any differences between an 85' and 91' produced Model 649?

S&W Newbie here.
I'm looking at a Model 649 38 Special purchase. I have a choice between a 1985 and 1991 production model. Both are NIB.
Is there any difference in quality?
Which one would be more desirable?
Should I stay away and find a better production year?
This will be a primary CCW for me in the humid Southeast.
Thanks for any help you can offer in advance.

Welcome to the Forum. The 649 was first made in 1985, and as a rule earlier guns in a series are more sought-after. They are functionally the same with minor engineering changes, but if they are the same price I would go with the early one.

By the way, "stainless" can rust, so sensible finish protection measures still apply, especially in humid conditions. Hope this is helpful.

I would guess the '85 is a no-dash and the '91 to be a 649-2. All else being the same I would want the newer revision myself, up to the internal lock models(2004?)

According to the boxes they are both no-dash models.
