Average age here

Sure is nice being around so many young guys - I consider anything under 75 as young:) I'll be 77 for the next 30 days and with a little luck I'll turn 78 in early April.

31, and owner of a "plastic" M&P 45C, M&P 15A, and a Model 37 Ithaca 12 Gauge.

I do like the look and feel of a old revolver, but for my practical use for a concealed carry, I choose to buy a "plastic" gun. I'm not at the point in my life where i have enough disposable income to collect many more firearms, but if i did, i would very much like to own some of the nice s&w revolvers of past generations.

I would like to say that some of the comments here are very interesting. I would say the avg age is closer to 50, and a previous comment is correct in that most of the younger crowd (myself included) are of the M&P background. And in most cases, much like mine, i think we "younger" guys tend to buy the "plastic" guns for the simple fact that we like to own the weapons we use on duty and become more proficient on our own time.

On another note...i know that when you use the term "plastic" you use it in a negative way, but i'd be careful with that. In some cases you may be painting yourselfs in a corner, and continuing the segregation of gun owners. It sounds a lot like you are turning your nose up at us younger guys. Most of us have thick skin, and can brush off comments like that, but you may be turning others away at the same time.

If you look at the average age (here and at your local club) you may notice something startling. The younger crowd is getting smaller. What is going to happen when the younger generation takes your place, are your guns going to go with you, or have you passed on the knowledge and appreciation that goes with it in order for those types of guns to stand the test of time?

I'll get off my soapbox now...hopefully this makes sense, and i provoked some good thoughts.

Brian;
I think you are absolutely right. Good post

I am 29, but seem to collect the classics instead of the black plastic guns (in fact I only own 1 plastic gun). Among my favorites are my Mod 28 No Dash and my Mod 39 No Dash. I also have a real nice Mod C rifle in .234 Win.

I became a grandpa today, still i'm only 50.

I hope Grandbaby grows up one day and has this conversation with you.
Congrats.....

51 here and I like good old American made guns the best. Not that I would rule out some of the Euro. guns.
Plastic has its place to be sure.Stainless and Alloy are great in Fla. for carry.
I just like guns that are well made and can be shot.
BANG....NICE.:D:D:D

52 here. My one and only plastic gun is my everyday Ruger LCP. It's small enough to be with me all the time. Otherwise I like wood and metal. I appreciate a good revolver but would never want the Ruger LCR. Asthetics means a lot to me and I think the LCR is ugly. My personal all time favorite would be the the 1911 as indicated by my recent purchase of a Les Baer P II.

I'll chime in, 62 here. Prior to my move to Florida, I had 43 handguns, unk rifles, and 8 shotguns. Bought a "big" safe for both children and had them pick. I kind of feel I still own them. :-)

My last purchase to restock was a old S&W 29 and a 36. Yes 2 Colt revolvers too.

Turning 65 later this year and I could not say it any better than NFrameFred. Glad to be retired and have time to shoot my collection of wood & steel revolvers. My only "plastic" gun is a Glock 23 that was retired with me in 1997. Fun to shoot but not something I would buy.

32 here. Yes I believe age tends to direct a person on materials used in a pistol/rifle. Different strokes for different folks.

44 until April. I love Glock and Sig. I have owned the M&P, Kel Tec so Plastic doesn't bother me at all. But I also love S&W J Frames and if I could only own one hand gun it would be my 442. Weight, capacity and concealability are very important to me and that is where the plastic guns earn favor with me.

I'm 40 and own some of both types, enjoy shooting both types. My favorite, however, is my Python- bright stainless, beautiful, and heavy in my hand (good thing)

First, this thread should of had a poll.

I'm 46 and have always felt I was dealing with an older group here, and from the responces so far, that seems to be true.

I only have stainless handguns and blue rifles.

Over 50 here is as close as I'll tell...all are SS or blued except for 2 KelTec's I have for everyday use around the farm so if they get beat up I don't care about it.

70 here. I collect WWII military rifles, have a few "black rifles" and an assortment of handguns. I have both bottom feeders and wheel guns, and will have to say my preference is with blued steel, walnut and double action revolvers.

I'll hit the half century mark in November. As far as plastic on hunting guns goes, I own a Benelli SBE2, Remington 870, Mossberg 500, Browning BPS 10 Ga, CZ bolt gun in 308 and T/C Omega Z5. All of these were purposely bought wearing plastic as hunting season usually brings nasty weather and I wanted the extra protection a plastic, glass or carbon fiber stock adds from the mud, snow and rain of the duck blind or deer stand. As for handguns, I own two plastic guns. A Glock 26 and Kel-Tec P32. I much prefer blued or nickeled steel over stainless steel. And stainless steel is way above plastic.

Class III

Edit: I forgot the "Fun Guns". 3x AR style EBR (2 Colt, 1 Oly) and a PolyTech AK47/S.

I am actually 54 but I tell people that I am 18 with 36 years experience.

I have owned about every major brand of handgun over the years, revolvers and autos. In my old age I have settled on nothing but Smith & Wesson's and all of them are stainless steel.

64 and all wheel guns except 1 1911 45, rifles all lever or bolt with wood, shotguns are pump or doubles. the new plastic guns don't even look or feel like guns to me.

I'm not sure age has much to do with it. I 'm 77. I have 2 EBRs and 3 Glocks. But my three shotguns are a Darne, a Charlin and a Benelli (wish I could hit something with ANY One of them). I also have Smiths, Colts, Winchesters, Mausers and a bunch of weird stuff (doesn't everyone have a 6mm Winchester Lee Navy and a 6mm Winchester sporting rifle?). As the Sultan once said of his harem, I like 'em all. My only problem is making enough time to go shoting as much as I'd like.
