Barrel and recoil spring sticking out after reassembly

Hey guys I'm new to the forums and just recently purchased an SD9VE. When I was reassembling the gun, I guess I had the recoil spring and barrel misaligned and I pulled the slide back onto the frame rails. Now the recoil spring and barrel are sticking out (See attached photos) and I'm having trouble disassembling the gun. The way the barrel is sitting in the gun now, it's not flush with the top of the slide. I can pull the slide back pretty far, but not all the way.

Any help you can provide so that I can disassemble the gun would be much appreciated, otherwise it looks like I'm taking it to a gunsmith. Hope I didn't mess anything up too badly.

Take the slide off, realign the recoil spring and guide rod and reassemble. It looks to me like you have not gotten the recoil rod back into the right place and its hanging up on the bottom of the lower frame.

I'll take a pictured and post it in a minute.

Exactly. I had the same thing happen to me with a Glock. Entirely my own fault. Just wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Haven't made the same mistake since.

No need for a gunsmith, I don't think. You'll figure it out. Doubt you messed anything up. Just try not to scratch up the surface while you're jiggling things around trying to straighten things out.

Here ya go. Look at where your guide rod is seated (see arrow). It goes on the lug step closest to the barrel. Be sure its not seated on the upper step.

I would keep trying to hold the take down levers down while trying to mover the slide.

Have you tried pulling down both catches and pulling the trigger? Kind of a 3-handed job...
Would have helped if you had stopped pushing at first resistance, not tried to force it on. Good luck.

Carefully push the nose of the slide or perhaps the front edge of the front sight against the edge of a table while pulling the two-sided takedown lever down. You may need to pull the trigger, too, but I doubt it. Just take the pressure off the takedown lever so you can move it downward. This will release the slide so you can realign everything.

You haven't hurt the gun at all. All of us have done something like this. How do you think we know how to fix it?

The sight against a table is a good idea wish I had thought of it.

Hi guys, new guy here.
I just did the same with my new shield plus.
I tried the method mentioned above, but the slide won't move forward at all!
Any suggestions?
