I'm gathering parts for a flattop upper for hunting coyotes and other varmints and I could use some suggestions on a barrel and where to buy. I need an accurate barrel of course but the absolute range where I would be shooting would never be over 150 yds and barrel heating from rapid fire would not be a problem. So any AR builders here I would appreciate you knowledge and experience.

I sent a NIB PSA upper to Windham Weaponry and had a 300 Blackout barrel installed. Less than $250.00, including a new compensator. I did buy a few 300 Blackout specific magazines for it. The 300 blackout uses the same bolt as the 5.56x45.

I recently purchased an upper in 7.62x39 for a bit more "oomph" too. Either one should be plenty powerful and accurate enough to punch things at 150 yards. 300 Blackout ammo can get pricey though.

My upper was built using an 18 inch heavy stainless barrel, 1/8 twist with a Wylde chamber, the barrel came from Rock River. It groups at less that 1 inch at 100 yds using 62 grain milsurp ammo.

I'm a big fan of Ballistic Advantage barrels for most of my ARs as they deliver solid 1 MOA accuracy.

For my match rifles I like Criterion. Great barrels that don't break the bank like a Krieger.

Odin Works makes phenomenal barrels, I have had excellent results with the many I have. I have never had an availability problem and they have gotten the nod many times as they were the only product that would check all the boxes AND was available.

Rock River Arms makes some good ones but availability and shipping can be an issue.

Critereon and Ballistic Advantage are also excellent barrels but availability is scarce around here.

Proof Research barrels are the best of any that I have used EVER. If you want the carbon fiber barrel, you are going to spend some $$$$$ but the weight savings is noticeable and welcome for long hunts.

If I were building a rifle for the intended use purpose that OP stated, the Odin Works 18" DMR Rifle barrel would be choice #1
Odin Works 18" 3-gun Rifle barrel choice #2 (slightly lighter)
Proof Research 18" Carbon Fiber Rifle barrel #3 (#1 if no budget constraint, LOTS lighter)

JP 2-port muzzle brake would complement your rifle quite well. There are some other decent brakes out there but many make a LOT of noise with very little recoil brake action.

The most important aspect to me would be to make sure what ever barrel I choose has a RIFLE LENGTH gas system.

Just my $0.02, HTHY

Odin works looks interesting and it's in the price range of the criterion I have looked at. Thanks for all the input and any additional info will be appreciated. I am using a Colt match hbar lower and bolt carrier assembly and aero precision upper receiver and I am little concerned about headspace.
